Russia Breached - Joe Blogs
Ukraines drone campaign against Russia is intensifying and the economic consequences are becoming increasingly visible.
Tracking successful Ukrainian drone strikes since the start of the war shows a clear acceleration, with a sharp ramp-up through 2024 and a surge in late 2025. Recent attacks mark a decisive shift in strategy, moving beyond refineries and depots to target oil tankers, pipelines, and offshore energy infrastructure critical to Russias export system.
The impact is now feeding directly into production and revenues. Russian oil output fell by around 100,000 barrels per day in December compared to November, adding fresh pressure to an industry already constrained by sanctions, price caps, shipping risks, and rising costs. As disruption mounts, each remaining barrel is becoming harder and less profitable to sell.
With oil and gas revenues forming the backbone of the Russian budget, sustained infrastructure damage is compounding the financial strain. Falling volumes, weakened export routes, and tightening sanctions are converging at a moment when Russias economy can least afford further shocks.
As Ukraine expands the range and effectiveness of its long-range strikes, the question is no longer whether Russias energy sector can be breached but how long it can hold.
