Censored children’s art show returns to California in San Diego exhibition

<snip>

"After being censored last year in Oakland, the art exhibit "A Child's View from Gaza" will once again be displayed in California later this month. "A Child's View from Gaza" features artwork produced by Palestinian children and captures snapshots of their lives in the midst of the 2008-09 Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip. The exhibit was cancelled at Oakland's Museum of Children's Art under pressure from Jewish community organizations in September, 2011, but opened regardless in a community space nearby. The exhibit will show at the World Beat Center in San Diego on May 24, 2012 alongside the local premier of Tears of Gaza, a film by Norwegian director Vibeke Løkkeberg, and a discussion by curator Susan Johnson.

Tears of Gaza presents the same period of time in Gaza from the perspective of on-the-ground filmmakers. Johnson describes the exhibition as "nothing short of amazing – some drawings are difficult to view with scenes depicting war at its worst while others illustrate hope."
