Source: Times of IsraelApproximately 60,000 US Jews have established their homes across the Green Line
Fifteen percent of West Bank settlers are American citizens. According to an Oxford University professor, approximately 60,000 American Jews live in Jewish settlements in the West Bank, Haaretz reported Thursday.
This provides hard evidence that this constituency is strikingly over-represented, both within the settler population itself and within the total population of Jewish American immigrants in Israel, Sara Yael Hirschhorn, the author of the forthcoming book City on a Hilltop: Jewish-American Settlers in the Occupied Territories Since 1967, said during a presentation at Jerusalems Limmud conference, Haaretz reported.
The book will be published by Harvard University Press next year.
An estimated 170,000 American immigrants and their children live in Israel, according to Haaretz.

(58,724 posts)Amazing that people who understand Israel only through an American prism think they can apply the rightwing/leftwing continuum to Israel in the same way that they can in the United States.

Any Palestinians living within Israel who believe in these values (and there are many) are considered Zionist RIGHTWINGERS by Israel's most hostile anti-Zionist critics within the reactionary BDS movement....because they're not maniacally anti-Israel, pro-Hamas, pro-Hezbollah, etc.
Ironically enough, those most hostile to Israel who cry about rightwingery turn out to be quite sympathetic to the most unhinged fascist demagoguery in that part of the world.

This is an American and Democratic Party supporting board , we don't pigeon hole people by their backgrounds, race , ethnicity or sexual orientation.... My advice to you ... Get off the small town kibbutz and go to Tel Aviv and learn about the melting pot that is modern Israel .....

(6,171 posts)I have no problem with Americans moving to Israel for any reason of their choosing, but illegally settling occupied lands on the backs of the invading military forces is wrong, and shouldn't be allowed. I know also that some of the illegal settlers are EU citizens and that the EU is trying to discourage them from living in the occupied territories, although personally, I don't think cutting pensions for Holocaust survivors is the right way to go.
