An attack on the Jewish community that is how South African Jewish community organizations are describing proposed changes to the country's dual-citizenship laws.
A deputy cabinet minister and senior official in the ruling African National Congress (ANC) made headlines at the weekend when he was quoted as saying that the government should look at changing current laws so as to prevent South African citizens from fighting for the Israel Defense Forces.
The South African Jewish Board of Deputies (SAJBD) and South African Zionist Federation (SAZF) condemned the comments made by Obed Bapela, who is also head of the ANCs national executive committee's panel on international relations.

(12,606 posts)They will look for the worst offenders, which unfortunately happens in any movement, make hay of that situation and then brand the entire movement as anti-Semitic.
It won't work in much the same way as Bejamin Netanbooboo failed in his attempt to derail the Iran / US /World peace deal.
Simply put, dave, people the world over are fed up with Israel and are embracing BDS, and those who want to scream at the world that they are anti-Semites should look inward firstly at the ghastly situation that Israel has created. They need to stop playing the victim card, dave, every time that Israel looks bad and BDS prevails.
I would imagine that, a supposedly liberal person of Jewish background, would welcome the truth about Israel first, make a leveled judgement and come to the conclusion that Israel is a de-facto apartheid state. Yes, there is always the pull to defend Israel at all costs for some, "My country right or wrong", but they are no better than the supposed racists that they purport to counter.
Nobody should support the individuals who make any movement dirty in the same way that nobody should support the apartheid movement in Israel; seeing how it's completely filthy.
That's what BDS is all about, dave.
