Palling Around with Nazis: Netanyahu’s political ancestors are also guilty by association

http://mondoweiss.net/2015/10/netanyahus-ancestors-association

As for a strategic alliance, al-Husayni and Hitler never hashed out a deal, though they did maintain an acquaintanceship. When it comes to Nazism, guilt by association goes a long way, and there’s no reason for history to be kind to al-Husayni. (Accurate would be nice, though.)

But guess who else reached out to the Nazis looking for a partnership? A group known as Lehi (or the ‘Stern Gang’), a Zionist militia which had split from the Irgun – itself a splinter of the main Jewish army, the Haganah – in 1940. (Each breakaway militia felt the tactics of its parent group weren’t aggressive enough.)

The Zionist militias were looking for help seizing Palestine from the British, so it made sense to align themselves with Hitler. They offered to help fight on Germany’s side, in exchange for the transfer of Europe’s Jews to Palestine and Hitler’s support of a ‘totalitarian’ Jewish state. As Tel Aviv University history professor Yaacov Shavit writes, when a Lehi representative met with a Nazi diplomat in Beirut in January 1941, “he proposed a political as well as military cooperation leading to the establishment of a Jewish state on a nationalist and totalitarian footing, that would be linked by a treaty to the German Reich.”

Hitler didn’t respond to the overtures – as Shavit explains, “All that Lehi could in effect have offered Germany as its contribution to the Nazi war effort, was to act as a fifth column and try to place obstacles in the way of the British in Palestine“ – and the deal stalled.

1. The Mufti fully supported the Nazi program in every way, especially where Jews were concerned.

2. Meanwhile, the Lehi wanted to make a deal with Hitler to save Jews while fighting the British colonialists running Israel. How can Lehi possibly be faulted for that? There's enough to fault them for, but not that.

This is yet another idiotic Mondoweiss article aimed at folks who either lack critical thinking skills, are ignorant, or those who could care less about facts. And of course Israel haters looking for any angle to bash Israel and equate them to the Nazis...

Any clear thinking person could figure out what a worthless pile of crap this article is. If it were a position paper written for high school, it would receive an 'F', as there's simply no comparison between what Lehi did vs. the Mufti.

Terrorists wanting to make a deal with a dictator.

It's nice that you can stand up for them, and these Zionists outreach to Hitler...I guess.

Bookmarked.

On edit: TY for the word salad. Netanyahu's speech writers couldn't have said it better.

.....does not make one a Nazi collaborator.

What Lehi did was collaboration with Nazis as much as paying a ransom is collaboration with kidnappers.

Believing that Nazi Germany was a lesser enemy of the Jews than Britain, Lehi twice attempted to form an alliance with the Nazis.

but they do show wider DU just how far they will crawl through the lower intestine of dialog in order to justify their bankrupted version of the truth.

If one attempts to argue that the Jews of Lehi (a terrorist group) are just, while they unsuccessfully conspired with the NAZIS to go to war against the British in Palestine, During WWII, then I must conclude...IMHO...that they will do, say or write anything: no matter how erroneous, no matter how corrupted and no matter how laughably asinine in order to promote a failed ideology.

To argue for Lehi's groveling before the scourge of Europe, the NAZIS, is tantamount to arguing for the Grand Mufti groveling as well.

But more importantly, your grasp of what is just is fallacious at best.

1. Lehi was responsible for British deaths in Palestine. Hardly a group that I, or anybody of good conscience, would applaud.

2. Lehi groveled to the NAZIS and attempten to conspire against the British in 1941.

To sum up.

The NAZIS were bloodthirsty monsters: intent on empire.

Lehi, a Jewish terror gang, were attempting to collaborate with bloodthirsty monsters.

Since Lehi, a Jewish terror gang, became part of the founders of Israel what does that make Israeli Zionism then?

I never insinuated at any time here that I support Lehi, believing they were "just".

I've repeatedly stated that as bad as they were, to say they "collaborated" with the Nazis is as stupid as arguing that paying a ransom is collaboration with kidnappers. You didn't even mention the fact that they were trying to save untold thousands of Jews by bringing them to Palestine. You left that out completely in your attempt to defend yet another idiotic Mondoweiss article.

You have nothing but personal attacks.

I'm not sure on how you can keep defending them and their pandering to the Nazis, shira.

I guess that it's in your nature, IMHO.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lehi_(group)

[div class="excerpt"]Lehi split from the Irgun militant group in 1940 in order to continue fighting the British during World War II. Lehi initially sought an alliance with Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany, offering to fight alongside them against the British in return for the transfer of all Jews from Nazi-occupied Europe to Palestine.[2] Believing that Nazi Germany was a lesser enemy of the Jews than Britain, Lehi twice attempted to form an alliance with the Nazis.[2] During World War II it declared that it would establish a Jewish state based upon "nationalist and totalitarian principles".[2][17] After Stern's death in 1942, the new leadership of Lehi began to move it towards support for Joseph Stalin's Soviet Union.[1] In 1944 Lehi officially declared its support for National Bolshevism.[6] It said that its National Bolshevism involved an amalgamation of left-wing and right-wing political elements – Stern said Lehi incorporated elements of both the left and the right[2] – however this change was unpopular and Lehi began to lose support as a result.[18]

Lehi and the Irgun were jointly responsible for the massacre in Deir Yassin. Lehi assassinated Lord Moyne, British Minister Resident in the Middle East, and made many other attacks on the British in Palestine.[19] On 29 May 1948, the government of Israel, having inducted its activist members into the Israel Defense Forces, formally disbanded Lehi, though some of its members carried out one more terrorist act, the assassination of Folke Bernadotte some months later,[20] an act condemned by Bernadotte's replacement as mediator, Ralph Bunche.[21] Israel granted a general amnesty to Lehi members on 14 February 1949. In 1980, Israel instituted a military decoration in "award for activity in the struggle for the establishment of Israel," the Lehi ribbon.[22] Former Lehi leader Yitzhak Shamir became Prime Minister of Israel in 1983.

And some want to argue for these terrorists.

I guess that they have more in common with the grand mufti than some would like to admit for obvious reasons.
