Two Hamas activists arrested over plan to kidnap Israeli soldier
Two Hamas activists who founded a cell that planned to kidnap an Israeli soldier and to acquire materials for manufacturing rockets were arrested by the Shin Bet security service and the Israel Defense Forces; it was cleared for publication on Wednesday.
Ahmed Abu Fahida, an attorney and resident of the West Bank village of Ras Karkar village, near Ramallah, was identified by security forces as the head of the terror cell. Abu Fahida had been previously arrested for his activities on behalf of Hamas and was recruited by a Hamas activist from Gaza named Ahmed Oudeh into the Iz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas's military wing.
During the Shin Bit's interrogation of Abu Fahida it discovered that that he had told Oudeh he would carry out a terror attack.
According to the Shin Bet's recently released statement, Abu Fahida was told to kidnap an Israeli soldier, take the soldier's identification card and cellphone and then kill the soldier and bury the body at a hidden location. For the task, Abu- Fahida allegedly decided to recruit another Hamas activist, Ahmed Shabroui, a resident of the West Bank town of Silwad, also located near Ramallah. Shabroui had previously served jail time for his role in planning a terror attack.
