Kibbutz residents attack Bedouin village in the Negev

Israelis from a Negev kibbutz attacked a Bedouin village on Sunday, setting fire to a tent, a Ma'an reporter said.

Residents from the Kibbutz of Retamim attacked the adjacent Bedouin village of Bir Hadaj and set fire to a tent belonging to Eid Abu Habbak, head of the local village council, Salman Ibin Hamid, told Ma'an.

Abu Habbak filed a complaint with Dimona police department.

"The setters of Retamim are acting like they are in the West Bank," Ibn Hamid added. "These people have the mentality of the occupying settler to attack every Arab."

Israeli police said that Bir Hadaj residents hurled stones at residents of Retamim, a claim which Ibn Hamid denied.

On Sunday, 10 Sivan 5773, a women traveling with her three children in the Negev area near Kfar Retamim encountered a stone barricade on the roadway which prevented the vehicle from passing. The large rocks were placed across the roadway to compel motorists to slow down.

Bedouins from the nearby community of Bir Hadaj began pounding the vehicle with rocks and other objects, doing so from a close distance. Some were on ATVs alongside the targeted vehicle. B’chasdei Hashem, as the attack continued the women managed to extricate herself and children by bypassing the rock roadblock. They were uninjured.

Residents of Retamim that night held a symbolic protest to send a warning to their Bedouin neighbors as well as to alert lawmakers to the “intifada type” attack. Retamim residents told the press this was not a lone incident, explaining the Bedouin villagers have been increasing attacks during recent months.

Bedouins from village of Bir Hadaj hurl stones at cars of Retamim residents

Residents of the Retamim community in the Negev said that several violent incidents, perpetrated by Bedouins from the nearby town of Bir Hadaj, occurred Sunday, adding that despite police presence, attacks continue to plague the community.

Two Retamim residents, Tamar Green and M., said that stones were hurled at their cars Sunday afternoon in two different instances. According to M., masked men drove around him and pelted his car with stones. "The masked men surrounded me and tried to attack me, until I fled to an area with police presence. Only then they let me go," he said.

Both events occurred on Sunday. It seems pretty obvious the Bedouins are retaliating for perceived injustices. The kibbutz can build while their structures are demolished.

Why would kibbutzniks be instigating anything? Makes no sense.
