Palestinians hurl slippers at visiting UN chief

EREZ CROSSING, Gaza Strip — Relatives of Palestinians held in Israeli jails have hurled slippers at an armored vehicle carrying visiting U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon into the Gaza Strip.

About 40 relatives of Palestinian prisoners gathered at the Erez Crossing between Gaza and Israel, hoisting posters with pictures of their loved ones and signs in English and Arabic reading, "Ban Ki-moon, enough bias to Israel."

Two of them threw slippers at his car.

The relatives formed a human chain at the crossing in an effort to block Ban's vehicle, but Hamas security forces moved them away so he could enter Gaza.

After all, Israel has a hell of a lot to thank the UN for, not that you'd think it the way some American 'supporters' of Israel carry on

The UN of the 1940s is not the same as the UN of today.

Israelis have lots of reasons to feel animosity towards the UN.

Palestinians do as well.

well it's become almost a 'respectable' political statement these days, however I wonder if it had something to do with the lack of action on the part of the UN in relation to Palestinian prisoners there was a conference in May 2011 where lots was said little was actually accomplished

here is a link to the lengthy summary of the conference

How much money does the UN give the Palestinians?

He's lucky he didn't go near Gaza... They would have "lobbed" something else at him.

Reality sucks, huh Ban?
