These are the names of 13 children killed in Gaza

Renewed hostilities between Israel and militants in the Gaza Strip have seen hundreds of rockets flying into Israeli territory and about 450 Israeli strikes on targets in Gaza, a thin coastal enclave that is one of the more densely packed places on Earth. Israel insists that it's cracking down on the threat posed by the Islamist group Hamas and that it is taking pains to avoid civilian casualties.

But civilians are dying. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, which is administered by the territory's Hamas-dominated government, Israeli airstrikes in the past few days have killed at least 52 people, including 13 children age 16 and younger. The death toll and the list of the names of 41 deceased were provided to Beirut-based newspaper al-Akhbar and are republished below. The names of the children are marked in bold.

One family lost 5 children in the same attack. 75 people, most civilians, according to reports, have been killed in the bombing attacks over recent days.

Hamas wants civilians as martyrs. They are partially responsible for these deaths. Of course, Israel bears a greater responsibility but Hamas is clearly intent on playing the game.

But then, I'm maybe a bit cynical as I'm watching "pro-Israel" people hopping and cheering every rocket that slips through iron dome, and i've seen no shortage of waving of bloody shirts. Plus of course, the fact that israel isn't firing its missiles from big empty nowheres, either - and the use of those settlers as a human buffer in case things get nasty in the West bank...

Thing in Gaza is... where the fuck are people going to go? Really, they can just herd themselves from one free-fire turkey shoot to the other. They can't flee across the border, not into Israel nor into Egypt. Hell if they try to go out in boats, the Israeli navy will fire on them, just like it does when they go fishing. Their options are to run and get bombed, or sit and get bombed. And who wants to have sore feet when you're getting bombed?

Israeli airstrikes across the besieged Gaza Strip killed 31 Palestinians overnight Wednesday and Thursday, including a family of eight, bringing the total death toll to 82.

Early Thursday, Israeli warplanes targeted a building in Khan Younis, killing eight members of the al-Hajj family. Over 30 people were injured in the strike.

Most of the victims were children, al-Qidra said, adding that Israeli forces bombed the building without a warning or asking them to evacuate.

Earlier, nine Palestinians were killed and at least 10 injured when Israel targeted Waqt al-Marah coffee shop on a Khan Younis beach.

Locals said dozens of people were watching the World Cup semi-final game when Israel fired a missile at the crowd.

Muhammad Khalid Qannan, his brother Ibrahim, Hamdi Kamil Sawali, Suleiman al-Astal, Ahmad al-Astal, Mousa al-Astal and Muhammad al-Aqqad were identified as some of the victims.

Muhammad Ihsan Farawneh, 18, was found dead on Thursday under the rubble of the cafe.

Another airstrike in the al-Zawayda village in central Gaza killed four members of the Shalat family; a couple and two children.
