Gaga’s ‘shalom’ riles Arab fans

Al Arabiya commenters say pop star’s video remark ahead of Tel Aviv gig was ‘insensitive,’ ‘devilish’

Lady Gaga apparently riled some Arab fans with a short video in advance of her Tel Aviv performance featuring a “Shalom” greeting.

“Shalom, Israel,” the American pop star says in the 10-second video. “I’m so excited to perform my new tour in Tel Aviv.”

The performer’s manager announced Sunday that the Sept. 13 concert in Yarkon Park – part of her “artRave: The ARTPOP Ball” international tour — would go on as planned, despite cancellations by other high-profile performers due to the Gaza conflict and its aftermath.

Responding on social media platforms to the video, which reportedly has gone viral, some Arab fans called Lada Gaga “disgusting,” “devilish” and insensitive, Al Arabiya News reported.

If saying hello in Hebrew is enough to get people to attack her, the problem is theirs, not hers.

warning video of the event at link

Lady Gaga's antics are sometimes vomit inducing, but this is ridiculous ... last night at her SXSW show, she actually let some chick VOMIT ALL OVER HER while she performed.

The vomiter is no amateur ... she's actually a "vomit painter" (actual profession) named Millie Brown, who is known for drinking various liquids and then vomiting them up onto a canvas. In this case ... the canvas was Lady Gaga.

and at the very least mentioned that she's also scheduled to perform in an Arab country.

That would have given the story a journalistic balance.

insensitive?
Shalom not only means hello, it also means peace.

Why is saying shalom insensitive?
