WATCH: Mandy Patinkin wants Netanyahu's job

Think the Prime Minister's Office could use a healthy dose of humor? Vote for Patinkin. Bonus: Stephen Colbert as national security adviser.

Think the Prime Minister's Office could use a healthy dose of humor, or perhaps a dash of CIA savvy? Either way, American actor and comedian Mandy Patinkin claims to be the man to replace Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Jewish actor and comedian, who plays Saul Berenson of the CIA on Showtime's "Homeland," said on "The Colbert Report" this week that he plans to run for the post of Israeli prime minister and let talk-show host Stephen Colbert become his security adviser.

"I am going to enter myself to be possibly elected as the new prime minister of Israel," Patinkin told Colbert in what sounded like a serious tone. Ultimately, he said, the duo "might calm the region into, on occasion, laughing at itself."

Then again, Patinkin might just have been a bit confused about what exactly being Israel's prime minister entails. As Patinkin's "Princess Bride" character, Inigo Montoya, so memorably said: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
