GAZA: Saudi Arabia has pledged $500 million to help rebuild Gaza, Palestinian Prime Minister Rami al-Hamdallah said Thursday, with the full cost of postwar reconstruction expected to be around $4 billion over three years.
Saudi Arabias commitment comes ahead of a conference in Cairo on Oct. 12 when Palestinian leaders hope other donors, including Turkey, Qatar, the European Union and United States, will step forward with promises of support.
Saudi Arabia has initiated donations by pledging $500 million, Hamdallah told reporters in Gaza, speaking via video conference from the West Bank. He said he hoped further pledges would cover the full cost of reconstruction in time.

(58,724 posts)Funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development and run by CRS, the internship program is designed to help young people in Gaza get work experience and earn an income as they begin their careers. Anne Marie Marsa, CRS project manager in Gaza, says response to the program has surpassed all expectations.
"Initially, we had nearly 18,000 college graduates apply," Marsa says. "We selected and placed more than 800 applicants with participating businesses like pharmacies, banks and nonprofit agencies. The ideal situation is that the interns get full-time jobs, which are hard to come by in Gaza."

(6,828 posts)should create jobs.. That is if Hamas actually uses the money to rebuild Gaza and does not instead divert it as they have in the past.
