Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas signed the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, a day after a bid for independence by 2017 failed at the United Nations Security Council.
Palestinians hope the move, certain to anger Israel and the U.S., paves the way for war crimes prosecutions against Israeli officials for their actions in the occupied territories.
"We want to complain. There's aggression against us, against our land. The Security Council disappointed us," Abbas said as he gathered a meeting of the Palestinian leadership in the West Bank.
He had threatened to join the international court if Tuesday's Security Council resolution failed. Late Wednesday, Abbas also signed applications for Palestinian membership in 20 international organizations.

Palestinian death toll now exceeds 1200 men, women and children, with more than 100,000 displaced. More than 1000 are missing.
As of now there is NO ICC investigation about Assad's murderous regime, but then again he's not Jewish.

(16,311 posts)Clearly any international pressure on assad could help liberate syria from his grasp, that seems like a much higher priority than investigating what happened in Israel's last defensive war against the terror group Hamas.
But thanks for demonstrating to everyone what's really important to you.

(10,650 posts)What is happening in Syria is a civil war. That's a different issue. Bringing Assad's actions into this is merely an attempt to divert attention from the crimes of Israel.
That said, Assad does need to be brought to the bar of justice one way or another.
