Israeli soldiers killed in Hezbollah retaliation attack

http://972mag.com/israeli-soldiers-killed-in-hezbollah-retaliation-attack/101976/

Two Israeli soldiers were killed in a cross-border attack on the Lebanese border Wednesday morning, for Hezbollah quickly took responsibility. A Spanish soldier serving with UNIFIL, the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon, was killed in Israeli retaliatory shelling.

The border attack comes a week after Israel assassinated a Hezbollah commander and an Iranian general in the Quneitra area of the Golan Heights in Syria. In the past 24 hours, two rockets hit the Israeli-occupied side of the Golan Heights and the IDF responded by striking Syrian military positions.

Late Wednesday Wednesday Israeli army vehicles traveling on a patrol road along the Lebanese border fence near Shebaa Farms and the village of Ghajar, which is half in Israel and half in Lebanon, were hit by Kornet anti-tank missiles.

In response to the attack, the Israeli military attacked southern Lebanon with artillery and air strikes, killing a Spanish UNIFIL soldier. An IDF Spokesperson said that the army’s response was not over.

Western intelligence sources say son of master terrorist Imad Mughniyeh was planning attacks meant to 'kill soldiers, hit Israeli communities in the Golan Heights and kill Israeli civilians'.

Special rules for Israel: Israel has to wait for terrorists to attack them first.

“This is Hezbollah saying, ‘We will respond, we’re not pushovers, we can defend ourselves, but this is not a cross-border raid and bring the bodies back — you didn’t see rockets, you saw small mortars,’ ” noted Matthew Levitt, director of the Stein Program on Counterterrorism and Intelligence at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. “The response had to be somewhat measured because the last thing in the world they want is to open up a full second front. They’re not capable of fighting two full-fledged wars on two separate fronts at the same time.”

Its amazing when AIPAC seems moderate and sensible compared to the hasbarados here on DU.

It's good that they have their priorities straight.

Meanwhile:

BEIRUT: The precarious security situation in Lebanon has led to widespread human rights abuses, with broad restrictions imposed on Syrian refugees and violations committed by security forces during operations, Human Rights Watch said Thursday.

“The deteriorating security situation is having a negative effect on human rights protections in Lebanon,” HRW said, also using its World Report 2015 to warn about several cases where freedom of expression was abused.

In the 25th edition of its world report HRW alleged various human rights violations in Lebanon with regard to discrimination, violence, government regulations and judicial decisions.

“As security challenges in Lebanon mount, so do concerns about the government failing to adequately protect human rights,” said Nadim Houry, deputy Middle East director at HRW. “Protecting the rights of both the Lebanese and of Syrian refugees is not only the right thing to do, it is the best way to ease the tensions in the country.”

It does seem that you consider Arabs to be terrorists whenever they do anything other than meekly accept being killed.

I would also reiterate that you are getting upset over the views of someone who is bought and paid for by AIPAC.

I am sure that Israel and Hezbollah both have entire departments given over to plotting against each other and making all sorts of plans and contingencies, so even taking the comments of the "western intelligence source" at face value, I don't think that that amounts to much.

What does seem to be universally accepted is that Hezbollah is badly stretched in Syria and is likely to remain so for some time, and is not even slightly interested in starting a war with Israel in the meantime. So any suggestion that this was a "pre-emptive attack" is simply ludicrous.
