Mafia Hit Man Confesses to Killing President Kennedy

Mafia hit man James Files says in interviews first aired nationally on Newsmax TV Thursday night that he worked along with major mob figures and fired the shot that killed Kennedy from the grassy knoll at Dealey Plaza in Dallas.

Friday, Nov. 22 marks the 51st anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's tragic assassination and Newsmax TV marked the occasion by airing the provocative premiere of the blockbuster documentary "I Killed JFK", featuring never-before-seen footage of Kennedy's confessed killer.

The documentary, produced by Hollywood’s Barry Katz, presents convincing forensic evidence supporting Files' contention that he, and not Lee Harvey Oswald, fired the fatal shot at America's 35th president.

"I squeezed off my round. I hit him and blew his head backward," Files said of the single shot he fired that fateful day

... and even most JFK conspiracists who have looked into it don't buy it.

The cartridge casing that was found was not manufactured before 1971:

In 2001, Bob Vernon was trying to sell the story to NBC, but they hired a private detective to check it out:

In brief, NBC retained me as a consultant for their planned story on Files. I hired the detective firm of Jules Kroll. JK established from telephone records Files was in Chicago, not Dallas, on November 22,1963. We then placed a call to Files from Dick Clark's office (DC was producer), and I interviewed Files about Kroll findings. He said he had a twin brother, who no one knew about, and whom he met shortly before November 22, and who he murdered after November 22. He said it was his twin brother in hospital with his wife, not him. His wife, however, said there was no twin, and Kroll confirmed there was no twin. My view then and now is that Files invented the story for the money it would earn him.

Was not familiar with all the details. I look forward to the program.

The idea that the "Mafia-Did-It" has gained a lot of ground in recent years, some of it due to Thom Harmann and Lamar Waldron's works on the subject, "Legacy of Secrecy" and "Ultimate Sacrifice." Going from what I've read, the works shed light on some areas, but seem to represent another sidewhow filled with false leads and evidence pointing away from the actual perpetrators.

About the Mafia and Assassination: The CIA approached the Mafia in 1960 -- when Eisenhower was in office. The idea was to enlist professional "hitmen" to take out Fidel Castro. So, there's real fire beneath all the smoke.

How the CIA Enlisted the Chicago Mob to Put a Hit on Castro

Ever wonder about the sanity of America's leaders? Take a close look at perhaps the most bizarre plot in U.S. intelligence history

EXCERPT...

By September 1960, the project was proceeding apace. Roselli would report directly to Maheu. The first step was a meeting in New York. There, at the Plaza Hotel, Maheu introduced Roselli to O'Connell. The agent wanted to cover up the participation of the CIA, so he pretended to be a man named Jim Olds who represented a group of wealthy industrialists eager to get rid of Castro so they could get back in business.

"We may know some people," Roselli said. Several weeks later, they all met at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami. For years, the luxurious facility had served as the unofficial headquarters for Mafioso leaders seeking a base close to their gambling interests in Cuba. Now, it would be the staging area for the assassination plots.

At a meeting in one of the suites, Roselli introduced Maheu to two men: Sam Gold and a man Roselli referred to as Joe, who could serve as a courier to Cuba. By this time, Roselli was on to O'Connell. "I'm not kidding," Roselli told the agent one day. "I know who you work for. But I'm not going to ask you to confirm it."

Roselli may have figured out that he was dealing with the CIA, but neither Maheu nor O'Connell realized the rank of mobsters with whom they were dealing. That changed when Maheu picked up a copy of the Sunday newspaper supplement Parade, which carried an article laying out the FBI's ten most wanted criminals. Leading the list was Sam Giancana, a.k.a. "Mooney," a.k.a. "Momo," a.k.a. "Sam the Cigar," a Chicago godfather who was one of the most feared dons in the country—and the man who called himself Sam Gold. "Joe" was also on the list. His real name, however, was Santos Trafficante—the outfit's Florida and Cuba chieftain.

Maheu alerted O'Connell. "My God, look what we're involved with," Maheu said. O'Connell told his superiors. Questioned later before the 1975 U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (later nicknamed the Church Committee after its chairman, Frank Church, the Democratic senator from Idaho), O'Connell was asked whether there had ever been any discussion about asking two men on the FBI's most wanted list to carry out a hit on a foreign leader.

"Not with me there wasn't," O'Connell answered.

"And obviously no one said stop—and you went ahead."

"Yes."

"Did it bother you at all?"

"No," O'Connell answered, "it didn't."

Unfortunately, before the Church Committee and, later, the House Select Committee on Assassinations could interview the principles, the figures from the Cosa Nostra side started turning up dead. Roselli was found cut up into sections, floating around Florida. Sam Giancana was shot dead in his Chicago area home while under federal witness protection.

That's what makes me believe the Mafia are just hired hands in the assassination of President Kennedy. What convinces me of that, though, is what came after the assassination. The Mafia was 1.) unable to 1. order a cover-up involving government and press; and 2.) unable to obstruct Justice, as the FBI and CIA have been documented by the government's own records to have done.

I thought of you when I read this today in Salon:

http://www.salon.com/2014/11/22/the_real_jfk_mystery_50_years_later_why_the_infamous_murder_must_be_reinvestigated/

Here is a tidbit I found interesting:

"n his memoirs, former House Speaker Tip O’Neill recalled that JFK aides Kenneth O’Donnell and Dave Powers—both of whom had been riding in JFK’s motorcade at the moment of the assassination—once told him that they had heard two shots coming from the grassy knoll, across the street from where Oswald is alleged to have fired all of the shots. CIA Director John McCone told RFK that he believed two gunmen had been present in Dealey Plaza."

The information about the aides was in a book titled, "Brothers: The Hidden History of the Kennedy Years." If you go to the Salon article there is a link to the passage in the book and how they were urged to change their story. But I guess they are lying too?

There is an awful lot of these types of stories but we're the crazy ones.
