I dont even know where to begin to unpack this trash. Chad Nance who is a freelance journalist in Winston-Salem and is covering the election here in NC, recorded the wife of NC Sen. Peter Brunstetter confirming that she believes that Amendment Ones destiny is not only to save marriage, it apparently also has something to do with white power preservation. (!)Nance said he recorded a conversation with the woman, whose name is Jodie Brunstetter, on video, and that she confirmed that she used the term Caucasian in a discussion about the marriage amendment, but insisted that otherwise her comments had been taken out of context by other poll workers.

(3,690 posts)They will try to ban abortion by state. So, red states will force women to concieve, drive out women of color to blue abortion states and voila, more caucasians.
Did I forget to mention red states making contraceptives hard to find/buy?

(3,310 posts)The only ads on TV besides Walter Dalton (D) are for one teafreak after another. The Dems can't get a word in edgewise for all the screed.
Where is DCCC? Where is DSCC? Where is ANY Dem money?
It feels as if NC is being written off by the establishment just exactly the way they did us in 2006. I'm beyond furious.
To its credit, HRC has been actively fighting Amendment One, but I still think we're going to lose. My partner and I are giving careful thought to moving... walking away from our house and land if necessary.

(61,608 posts)The amendment is written so broadly, it will likely strip benefits from all unmarried couples and their children. It's clear that the newly elected Republican legislature in North Carolina intended this. They put this language there. I am certain that this is not just an "unintended consequence" but actually the main intention of this amendment. Marriage for gay people is already illegal in North Carolina and there is zero chance of that changing anytime soon. This is not a pressing issue in the state, even for the homophobes. What is a pressing issue is throwing as many people as possible off what the Republicans like to call "welfare rolls."
This woman's statement is logically consistent with the actual intentions of the authors of the amendment, which is to strip protections from everybody who isn't in a one man-one woman marriage. They know damn well that this will hurt single moms and their children. They want it to.
