The US retailer, JC Penney (JCP), is under fire from the anti-gay group, One Million Moms, for the second time this year, after the retailer released a pro-gay ad featuring a lesbian couple with a child.
Just four months ago, JCP hired lesbian comedienne Ellen Degeneres to be the company spokesperson, prompting an outrage from One Million Moms (OMM), which is a division of the American Family Association.
Back then, it released a statement saying: Funny that JC Penney thinks hiring an open homosexual spokesperson will help their business when most of their customers are traditional families
DeGeneres is not a true representation of the type of families that shop at their store. The majority of JC Penney shoppers will be offended and choose to no longer shop there.
But, almost 22,500 people signed a GLAAD-initiated petition to thank the retailer for its pro-gay stance.

(38,187 posts)It has been a long time since I have had a JC Penney catalog to look through. I'm sure there is something in there that I can afford. I feel the need to support them in whatever small way I can. I'm pleased to see them doing this.

(22,057 posts)On the show she inadvertantly said "I'm gay" to a love interest ("Susan" into an airport microphone that was broadcast throughout the terminal. I clearly remember watching it and thinking how wonderful it was to see someone openly calling themselves gay. It meant a lot at the time.
Today I thought how sad that I (in 1997), at the age of 43, had such a low opinion of myself. Ellen led the way and I will always love her for her bravery. She put her career on the line, lost it, then came back and blew away the opposition.
Ellen DeGeneres is a force of nature-long may she reign!
