Any one else here have that feeling?
I won't sit down, I won't shut the fuck up, And I'm damn sure not going to let the majority of people who made a mockery of marriage tell me what best for me.

(14,400 posts)You're going to hell because of your chosen lifestyle so you have far more important things to worry about than the silly need to get married and do things that make gawd fearing old white people uncomfortable. (because no matter how obvious somebody is going to think it was a serious statement)
I've never understood the drive of supposedly xtian people to control the lives of others. They're all about "personal responsibility" and "personal liberty" but only until it's someone else's responsibility or liberty that's being discussed, then it's all about the infallibility of select parts of an old poorly written book of mythology.
The bitching, moaning and whining when Connecticut first made a move to legalizing gay marriage was loud, offensive and idiotic. The law passed, the fires of jeebus didn't rain down on us and now even the fundies have shut the fuck up for the most part.

(38,187 posts)I'd rather go with 'heterosexuals who are afraid standing up for civil rights because they could lose votes.' Which isn't probably even true anymore. It just baffles the mind, especially seeing this crap here on DU again. Like a four year late rehearsal ...

Do not ever. This is disgusting. Over and over again disgusting. So over and over again we must talk and scream and bang our heads against that wall.
I am ashamed.

(8,421 posts)Married to an "old white guy" (not fat but a geezoid!) we are with you! Not all of us oldsters, white or otherwise, are so set in our ways. We are very upset about what happened in NC, and believe EVERYONE in this country deserves the same rights.
Age does have one advantage: we are old enough to see the tide changing and moving in towards more rights for LGBT citizens.
Don't count us all out because of our age!

(61,588 posts)It's not age, ethnicity, or many other characteristics that determine bigotry. My mom said recently that she thinks it boils down to two basic kinds of people: includers and excluders.
"Includers" are people who want everybody to share in the good things in life. They aren't afraid of sharing, and they like to be part of diverse groups and communities.
"Excluders" are greedy people who want to hog everything for themselves. They want to belong to groups that exclude other people. They're mean and narrow-minded. Or maybe they're scared and poorly-informed. For whatever reason, they turn inward and as a result, they fear and hate people who are different.

(2,322 posts)...whomever you damn please. Trust me, I'm still stewing over the passage of Prop. 8. Look, I know you know this, but it bears saying: As you may be our sibling/parents/child/friend or just fellow citizen, human and American, so we are yours. And all of us are changing the minds of many, little by little, even that of the President.
Any heterosexual who thinks otherwise, and voted in favor of this stupid law, is a stupid heterosexual. And that is how I'd amend your post. "Let the stupid heterosexuals decide..." Because any heterosexual who can't see the slippery slope of such a law, allowing the majority to decide such a thing, is incredibly stupid. Anyone who doesn't see gay rights, like the rights of minorities or women, as human rights, is incredibly stupid. And likely won't realize the truth even when their rights are taken away from them for whatever reason, be it the fact that they're a certain sect of no-longer-acceptable Christianity or left-handed.
We who do see this are against anyone taking away another's rights. We have to be against it. It's not just wrong, but flat out stupid to think/feel otherwise.

(53,950 posts)Today's announcement has some merit, but it also shows the evolution of President Obama on this topic is far from over. Prepared to be scolded often about not being "grateful enough."
I forgot to add two new talking points...."we are looking for a utopian society" and "a perfectionist, not a president." G-d, we're greedy!

(1,364 posts)The thing that really bugs the shit out of me are all the comments about old geezers hurrying up and dying off. It's such a broad brush. I'm an old white geezer of 68, hence my login name and I've been on the lines fighting for gay rights since I was a teenager back in the 50's. In other words, longer than some of the people making the "hurry up and die, geezer" remarks have even been alive. I've met a lot of people in my age group who have changed their viewpoints on this issue. And, as a religious person, I resent the remarks made against us. I have been living and working within the ELCA for decades to change the church from within. Yes, the knuckle draggers are still there within the pentacostal churches, but even some of them are changing their minds. Hatred works both ways. Just last Sunday, the New Testament reading was from I John 4 -21. Go read it.
