My Wife, Son and I would like to ask something of our GLBT friends and allies at DU & elsewhere!

May WE share in your joy tonight?

We wife and I are heterosexual and my son's hopping 12 year old hormones give us a pretty good indication that he is, too.

We do, however, FULLY support GLBT rights and marriage equality for ALL Americans. We support basic human dignity and civil rights for ALL Americans. We believe that for there to be real freedom and justice for us, there has to freedom and justice for ALL Americans.

Today our President took another step toward making this happen.

Tonight, our hearts are FULL. I believe that we may have witnessed the dam break today. We certainly hope so. We sure as hell know that a little piss-ant cypher like bain romney can't hold back the waves of that breaking dam.

We would like to believe that the joy of the GLBT community today is our joy too, if only in some small way.

We will happily stand with our GLBT friends here in Maine this November and vote to bring Marriage equality to our little corner of New England.

PEACE!

Isn't it tragic that the teabaggers/fundies/rethugs find THAT concept to be threatening?

I have NEVER gotten a straight answer from a fundie as to exactly WHY the marriage of 2 gay people is a threat to THEIR marriage. These same people think that someone like david vitter is a good christian family man, too.

Of course these are the same people who had a collective shit fit over a lesbian saying hello to a cartoon bunny back in 2005. JEEEZIS!

PEACE!

I am so lucky to have so many friends all over the US and some are straight and some are GLBT. I think we can all be happy our President has taken a stand on such an important issue to so many of us.

We have our share of problems, but this issue - thankfully - is not one of them. I wish this was something I didn't feel proud of, because it should be way more fundamental than that, and just an accepted, insignificant fact of life.....but it apparently is not, and I am. I'm proud that Canada legalized same-sex marriage, and just wish we were the first country to do so, and not the fourth. Fourth isn't even bronze.

The fight is not done yet. Today was historical though and should be lauded. We are only as strong and as powerful as the sum total of all our LGBTers and our allies. We've picked up a powerful ally today in the president of the United States, and I am very excited to see how he will aid us in the fight in the future, to see how his power can help us achieve equality.

science fictiion writers but not much else. Then posters on DU (my only contact to the reality-based universe since I live in Mississippi) began the process of educating me. Thankfully, their optimism was correct-at least partially. Step by step I've seen the process unfold until now I can marry in 6 states (with more to come soon). I believe the president's words today are a major step forward but it could all be for nothing if Chief Justice Roberts and his right-wing cohorts feel pissy on the day when they decide my rights.

All you can do is enjoy the rare victories when they come and hope for the best which is what I'm doing tonight.

Peace to you and yours from deep dixie, the buckle of the bible belt.
