Happy Birthday, Harvey Milk. Milk – the LGBT rights pioneer and one of the first openly gay men elected to public office – would have turned 82 today.

Harvey Milk tirelessly advocated for a better and more equitable society, not just for LGBT people, but for all who had been marginalized – whether it was because of their race or ethnicity, sexual orientation or gender identity, age or socioeconomic status. Milk envisioned an America where everyone received the same dignity, respect, rights, and protections.

Milk’s legacy is both cultural and political. He paved the way for more LGBT people to come out and feel comfortable living openly. In his role as an activist and Supervisor, he led the fight against anti-LGBT legislation that would have banned openly gay teachers in California....
