Inspired by recent events in North Carolina.
It's not exactly club dance music. It's pretty rowdy, grungemetal like heavy rock, and I was totally not a real happy camper when I wrote it or performed it, but I love rock and roll, it's what I know best musically.
Anyway, this is for all y'all. You may not like the style of music, but I think you may like the message.
You think you know the total truth
and all the rest is lies
And in your twisted little mind
there is no compromise
You want to make me be like you
your bible tells you so
But you didn't understand a thing
I thought that you should know.
Don't tread, don't tread, don't tread, don't tread on me.
Don't tread, don't tread, don't tread, don't tread on me.
I tolerate, and I believe
that's the way it ought to be
I'm glad to let you live your life
Now do the same for me
In self-righteous indignation
You say I can't be free
For your way is the only way
The hell with those like me
Don't tread, don't tread, don't tread, don't tread on me.
Don't tread, don't tread, don't tread, don't tread on me.
You think you know your way is right,
and right for everyone
But I have seen the devil's face
a true republican
And Jesus had no politics
just love for you and me
if you really understood the words
the truth could set you free.
Don't tread, don't tread, don't tread, don't tread on me
No no no no no don't tread on me
Your favorite late night talk show host
writes the way things oughta be
No need to read between the lines
to see that he's a nazi
Do just what you want to
I want you to be free
But all I got to say to you
is don't you tread on me
I said no, oh no no, don't tread on me
No no no no no don't tread on me
No oh no no no don't tread on me.
I said no.
Don't tread on me.
(Thanks go to my friends.
Due to legal blah blah blah, I can't list band personnel.)

(27,670 posts)that our little kind of "Steely Dan" wannabe project band has done a country/bluegrass rock song you may like. The project is evolving and is very eclectic. I wrote this song, and have played it bluegrass style acoustically along with fiddle, banjo, and mandolin players. But, since I love to play lead guitar, this was recorded with electric instruments. It's in E minor if you ever want to jam along to it; it's very jam friendly for all strings. It comes off much better for the general public when a guy sings it, since I wrote the lyrics it in its final version for a woman I loved, and lived with, but had to leave.
Anyway thanks, HillWilliam for the kind "THIS. RAWKS". You may like the music to this one a bit more. And it is, in reality, a lesbian road/love song.

(3,310 posts)I loved Steely Dan. Then again, I loved a lot of 70s and 80s. The Police (such a crush on Sting!), ELO, Toto, Kansas, Marshall Tucker, Creedence, NGDB...
LOL... saying "I was classically trained but I like me some rock!" seems somehow like saying, "I'm married, not dead!"
