There may be other factors. I don't agree with the mindset, but it's true where there are crowds of straight people, gays and lesbians won't show up. If they do, they won't stay long. Those parties don't generally bring a lot of revenue and a bar has to think of the bottom line. Gay people will go somewhere else if straights have invaded what they regard as "their" space.
That said, if the batchelorette parties are bringing a good chunk of revenue, he's only cutting his own nose.
I'm uncomfortable with the approach he took, but gaybar owners will do or say almost anything to keep what they regard as their core business intact.
