Because if we DO shut up and play nice, then it's going to be "wait until we get the budget through." Then "wait until after we confirm this Supreme Court nominee who says that there's no such thing as a right to marriage." Then "wait until we get the Jobs bill through." Then "the midterms are coming up, don't you want us to get a Democratic Congress?"
