The President's friends want to put you to death.

http://thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/obama-to-attend-religious-event-sponsored-by-group-tied-to-uganda-kill-the-gays-bill/politics/2013/02/06/60000

President Barack Obama Thursday morning will attend the 61st annual National Prayer Breakfast, sponsored by the Fellowship Foundation, a radically conservative religious right evangelical organization known to many as “The Family.” Members and associates of The Family have been tied to legislation in Uganda, known as the “Kill The Gays” bill of 2009, that mandates the death penalty for the “crime” of being gay.

Members of The Family, past and present, include current and former Republican Senators Chuck Grassley, Jim Inhofe, Tom Coburn, Jim DeMint, John Thune, John Ensign, and Strom Thurmond. Other members of The Family include Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, the late Chuck Colson (of Watergate and Manhattan Declaration fame,) disgraced former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, and disgraced former Congressman Chip Pickering.

4. "Are You In?"
Wed Feb 6, 2013, 08:35 PM

Rev. Rick Warren:

"Jesus said, 'I want you to do this publicly.' So what I want you to do is take the card, and in just a minute, and if you say 'Rick, I am willing to serve God's purposes in my generation.'

...

Whatever it takes.

And I want you to just say, 'This is my commitment, before God and in front of everybody else. I'm in.' "

...

I'm looking at a stadium full of people who are saying 'whatever it takes'.

Whatever it takes, God. Time, talent, energy, money, effort, vision... God, whatever it takes.

Whatever it takes, that's what I'm going to do.

And I believe that today we are making history. We're making history that's going to start a movement that will bring a new Reformation in the church of God and a new spiritual awakening in our world. And, our world needs it.

And today, as you say 'whatever it takes,' you're saying publicly, "I'm in, God. I'm in...

...I'm in.' "

to enter into discussions in this forum. I was saddened to find that my failure to walk in lock step was greeted with as much intolerance as it might be at Free Republic, and that censorship is a tool of the LGBT Group.

Of course I will continue to persevere in a lifetime of activism interested in securing civil rights for all people. But, I will do so realizing that even some whose goals I support, do not support free expression of ideas.

He will go and smaile, shake hands, laugh, make small talk and they will continue to feel as though they have the support of Washington. It legitimizes their views. No one in authority ever comes out and tells them that their views are damaging, murderous, vicious and uncivilized.

Maybe someday.... but not now. We unfortunately still have a government that feels the need to pander to these hate groups.

to NOT go and still lecture them? Say, for example, like at the State of the Union? What a great way to show our different attitude to Civil Rights, contrasting ourselves as a country to those who would murder us in the name of bigotry and religion; and even chastising publicly those who help in such programs.

didn't get enough attention? You cheapen your argument when you use sensationalist titles like the one for this thread. It tends to make you look like FAUX NOOZ trying to gin up rage.

Frankly I'd rather have him attend this meaningless breakfast than have to listen to the hyperbaric outrage of FOX, Rush and the rest of the RW pundits & politicians spew about how his not attending proves he's not a real Christian and how he hates Christians for the next 24-48 hours. From the Leadership Development site: "Every sitting United States President, since Eisenhower, has attended and provided remarks at the Prayer Breakfast." It would be rather stupid for Obama to break that tradition right now with so many other important things on his plate.

I don't, for a minute, believe his attending this annual breakfast that has been going on for sometime is at all representative of his views. Nor is it meant to be an endorsement of the views of the Fellowship Foundation.

you shouldn't listen to Rush. Maybe you shouldn't worry so much about what they say and think, those who harm us in many ways, including legislating their interpretation of religion. If his attendance wasn't some kind of approval--even just a validation that their viewpoint is something of value--then he would not need to worry about attending, as your post indicates he does.

Every minute he and his staff have to deal with the crap I mention above takes away from real issues. Jay Carney would have to answer questions in the next daily press briefing about why Obama wasn't' there. Anything short of he was dragging a wounded Jesus off the battlefield in Afghanistan wouldn't have been acceptable to the nuts. And even that might not have done it they hate him so much.

It would also have given republican politicians a talking point to use over and over again at their leisure. The more they say he's not Christian and the more they say he hates Christians the more people start to believe it. Eroding his popularity in this manner takes away from his ability to bypass the GOP House and go out to the people to "campaign" for important issues like he did for the Fiscal Cliff.

Think about the BS and propaganda they've used against him so far. Not having attended would simply have added fuel to the fire.

the President meets with a group of Republicans or Conservatives on anything, he's basically meeting with a group who by and large is racist, homophobic, ethnocentric, sexist and pro 1% and anti 99% on top of it.

He could never attend anything, heck, he couldnt give the state of the union if he was going to avoid gatherings with mostly that leaning.

Anyway, the issue is every fundemental religious group hates gay people. Anytime, Obama meets with a fundamentalist religious person he's meeting with someone that doesn believe in gay equality. However, Obama has proven he does believe in gay equality and he has been the single best President to support and promote gay rights. I'm sure it feels good to bash Obama with an sensational title like you've done with your post, it really takes away from the larger context.
