Well now that being transgender is a bodily condition,I get testosterone patches.
But stupid united health care/MA can't get it that I am male.To change my name costs $180 bucks.Every time I get close to saving up the money, something goes wrong,I need to fix something,I get sick or injured or a bill is bigger,or it has to be used to survive.I live on SSI disability
But every FUCKING month this pointless hassle. I go to the complaint line, they work it out with united, they change my code to"male" I wonder if some jackass at that Utah based co.redoes my "code" as female every month. On one of my calls to resolve this same issue some representative" told me she "didn't believe in transgender"...
I have told them I am male I have top surgery done, no internal female parts,my doctors have told them the same and more ,over and over.Twice I have called the state complaint line. I swear if it happens... AGAIN,next month it might get uglier.I have a letter from united approving my T for a year.
So,when to call equality MD. or ACLU? This"code mistake" crap and the "needing dr. approval" over and over at the drugstore has happened so many times I cannot count, and united health care being centrally localized in Utah,it makes me wonder if some fucking mormon asshole is doing it because of their stupid religion.
You'd think this would be resolved after being on T for 3 or 4 years.
Why don't people just quit the shit.

(7,820 posts)The "simple" stuff shouldn't be so hard. No real advice as I haven't been in the situation, but hope they get their act together.
Not Me
(3,398 posts)I don't know if it is an option available to you on your plan, but here they offer the option to request a health advocate to try to cut through some of that crap.
I had a serious health issue about a year ago, and my HR rep made me aware of this. The nurse practicioner at UHC was very helpful in making sure that I got what I needed, when I needed it. It's history (I hope) now; but you mught want to check into it.

(38,310 posts)... the FBI and a bunch of other federal law enforcement people go in and secure the facilities before any records can be shredded or deleted, the assets of CEO's frozen... then an army of forensic accountants and criminal investigators sort through the mess. Next we would try in court the very wealthy people responsible for our nation's health care disaster. I'm sure quite a few of these executive officers are sociopaths who ought to be shot, but I'm against the death penalty so life in prison would be appropriate...
Sigh.
I've much experience with money people trying to make medical decisions for me and my doctors, but your experience seems especially awful.
Your conclusion about the gender issue may very well be correct. If some clerk with no medical training can deny my claims or ask me to consider other medications and treatment options, then I'm sure they'd have no qualms telling a person what gender they are.

(27,670 posts)they are all a bunch of lying, cheating scam artists who get paid to lie and cheat their customers, and they all know it.
So sorry about your troubles and frustration, undergroundpanther.
The whole United Health Care organization should be in prison. Worst "health insurance company" ever!!! They cheated me repeatedly. I despise them with every fiber of my being.
Good luck, bro, you have my complete sympathy, we need universal public healthcare and we need it to cover TG individuals.
