Kansas diners leave homophobic note instead of tip

A bizarre homophobic note left in lieu of a tip for a waiter at an Italian restaurant in Kansas generated so much buzz that people have been asking for the waiter's table so they can tip him with cash instead.

Last Friday, a couple thanked their 20-year-old waiter for good service at Carrabba's Italian Grill in Overland Park with this creepy note instead of a tip, according to local news reports:

"Thank you for your service, it was excellent. That being said, we cannot in good conscience tip you, for your homosexual lifestyle is an affront to GOD. Queers do not share in the wealth of GOD, and you will not share in ours. We hope you will see the tip your f*g choices made you lose out on, and plan accordingly. It is never too late for GOD'S love, but none shall be spared for f*gs. May GOD have mercy on you."

The story made the rounds in social media, and the restaurant supported the young waiter on its Facebook page.

sites that sell religious tracts designed to look like the back of a US banknote - $20, $50, $100 which the 'righteous' leave in place of a tip. The poor waiter/waitress sees what (s)he thinks is a $100 bill sticking out beneath a plate on the table and picks it up - only to find that it's a bible tract, not real money. Lovely. www.jamesrussellpublishing.biz/moneytractfool.html

The things people do in the name of "righteousness" is astounding.

My father use to say to us , " If I was in court being tried, I wouldn't want any religious people on the jury". He said he rather have 12 drunks.

hatred under the guise of religion.

I'm also updating to reflect post #11.

That doesn't mean all religious people are evil. There are some liberal churches and left wing religious people in the country.

This happened literally within 2 miles of where I live, and every Friday I twist balloons in a Chilis, and two couples at a table asked for some things and tipped me a few bucks plus a $100,000,000 "bill" with instructions on accepting Jesus in your life. They say they hand those out all the time. I wonder if one of them were the couple at Carrabba's.

Off topic, I know, but I love that great steak house (Bristol Place?) and the nearby seafood place where one can get Copper River Salmon in season, done as well as any place in the US.

I have had some wild times in Overland Park. Do they still have the 'no real taxis' thing?

Been here under two years. What's the no real taxis thing? I've seen little blue ones every now and then.

There were no taxis in OP back then. All of the restaurants and bars had lists of people who would pick you up in their own cars. Some of those early-morning rides were quite memorable.

But you know what makes your posting so different? It is the ONLY one, that I remember of five postings, that included the WHOLE disgusting message. Most media outlets only reported the following:

"Thank you for your service, it was excellent. That being said, we cannot in good conscience tip you, for your homosexual lifestyle is an affront to GOD.

They really edited the true horrific and heinous nature of the "tip" which was left. The level of hate should have been put out there for all to see.

thanks for this post!

Really gets my PTSD ire up. Not only was I subjected to a hellfire damnation by idiot Fred Phelps himself, on a visit to one of his Phelps relatives homes as a teenager, but I must have heard the epithet F*GGOT ten thousand times from my oh so lovely schoolmates. I have had a soul-searching apology from a very few of those, but remain completely estranged from all I grew up with. Growing up the only known f*g in a redneck town was one tough noogie, especially with abusive and neglectful parenting. Any wonder I ran away at 16?
This kind of story just wears me out to read. I hope that waiter has had a flood of good support.
