Catholic bishop of Springfield, IL to do `exorcism` on day governor signs gay marriage bill

http://americablog.com/2013/11/catholic-bishop-springfield-exorcism-day-gay-marriage-becomes-legal-illinois.html

The Catholic bishop of Springfield, Illinois has announced that he will conduct an exorcism on the day that Illinois officially legalizes gay marriages, since “same-sex ‘marriage’ comes from the devil.”

Illinois just passed legislation last week legalizes gay unions.

Marriages in the state won’t begin until June 1, 2014, but the legislation is going to be signed by the governor on November 20, 2013, and that’s when Bishop Thomas John Paprocki plans to exorcise the devil from Illinois, its governor, its legislature, gay people, or someone.

The bishop is clearly freaked out that a number of Catholic legislators quoted Pope Francis’ recently words of tolerance about gay people in justifying their votes in favor of legalizing gay marriages in the state.

So the bishop thought it would be a neat idea to wrap his exorcism in the name of the Pope, who I’m sure is going to be thrilled to have his name attached to this farce.

Right-wing asshats were promoted by the last two popes, and they're far more conservative (read, braindead) than priests of churchgoers.

But IMO Catholics in America have always paid lip service to the authority of bishops and the Pope and gone on with believing what they feel like believing.

So yeah, I'd say the horse has left the barn there. The symbolic power of the hierarchy doesn't seem all that strong anymore.

tends to find it's next host in the exorciser.
Perhaps he knows he's damned already and is willing to be a host. I hope he's ready for all the consequences. (If the Catholic church can use fear and ignorance for its purposes, so can we).

Then the compromise legislation in the remaining states authorizes same-sex marriage, and also allows the local bishop access to the state capitol building to perform the exorcism after the vote. Problem solved.
