Actor Alec Baldwin suspended by MSNBC for calling photographer a ‘cocksucking fag’

In a statement published on the MSNBC website, Baldwin said:-

I would like to address the comments I made this past week.

I did not intend to hurt or offend anyone with my choice of words, but clearly I have – and for that I am deeply sorry. Words are important. I understand that, and will choose mine with great care going forward. What I said and did this week, as I was trying to protect my family, was offensive and unacceptable. Behavior like this undermines hard-fought rights that I vigorously support. I understand “Up Late” will be taken off the schedule for tonight and next week.

I want to apologize to my loyal fans and to my colleagues at msnbc – both for my actions and for distracting from their good work. Again, please accept my apology.

This isn't the first or even second time Baldwin has made anti-gay remarks he later claimed he didn't mean.

Fuck him. He's as bad as his fundie brother.

... why doesn't he actually do something to try to change?

Therapy for starters. What's going on inside his head is not attractive.

realize it or not. Baldwin may not think he's homophobic, but his consistent use of slurs indicates otherwise.

But what's more deep-seated, ultimately, than the things they blurt out in the heat of the moment?

Judge someone more by their actions than their words. Words lie. Actions don't.

EDIT TO ADD: That was an astoundingly vague reply on my part. I mean judge someone on their actions versus what they say they believe.

MSNBC really needs to get it together. I think Baldwin's show is boring. Watched the first 15 minutes of the debut episode, and switched channels. Haven't even taken a peek since.

It was a mistake to move Ed Schultz to weekends, glad they brought him back with a daily show. He is passionate about what he does, and it made no sense to air Hardball twice almost back to back.

Why isn't The Last Word aired on Fridays? Can't O'Donnell do one more show per week, or if he has other conflicting commitments, perhaps find another MSNBC personality to fill in for him every Friday? Consistency would help bolster ratings, I would think.

How about Joy Reid? She's smart, entertaining, and I think could hold her own with a show. I think Chris Hayes should be moved back to weekends, he's too animated for me and often won't shut up to let guests speak, much like the other Chris on MSNBC (Matthews). A Joy Reid show could fit in that spot.

Couldn't MSNBC do something with Howard Dean or Barney Frank? Perhaps as fill-ins for other shows? I know Howard Dean has done this before, and he wasn't used to hosting a show, but would be more at ease with some experience.

I thought Baldwin was a bad choice from the very beginning, and there are so many other people who would be less of a hot head and do a better job, IMO.

Who is saying how gays love him SO much more now because we all love a good drama-filled story.

It is a shame, because I used to actually be a fan of his. Not any more. This is not the first time he has said those types of offensive, nasty things. I'm thinking the guy is a homophobe at this point. He sure needs to learn a little damn respect for our community. That much is for sure.
