Alec Baldwin blames gay activists for US show being pulled

Rory Carroll in Los Angeles
theguardian.com, Wednesday 27 November 2013 01.45 GMT

The actor Alec Baldwin has blamed "the fundamentalist wing of gay advocacy" for the decision by MSNBC, the US cable news channel, to cancel his weekly show after he used offensive language to a photographer.

Baldwin, who was caught on camera apparently calling a photographer a "cocksucking fag", acknowledged he had to take "some responsibility" for his actions but blamed activists for the network's decision on Tuesday to pull the plug on his six-week-old talk show, Up Late with Alec Baldwin.

"You've got the fundamentalist wing of gay advocacy – Rich Ferraro and Andrew Sullivan – they're out there, they've got you," he told the news site Gothamist. Ferraro is a spokesman for the mainstream campaign group Glaad, and Sullivan is a popular blogger whose views are not widely regarded as extremist.

"Rich Ferraro, this is probably one of his greatest triumphs," Baldwin said. "They killed my show. And I have to take some responsibility for that myself."

He knows he should control himself and his mouth, but he doesn't. I can't muster up any sympathy for him.

and I'm not sure it was asserted otherwise?

I like the guy but "the fundamentalist wing of gay advocacy" (as Baldwin put it) isn't responsible for his troubles. He is.

... all the time. I haven't heard Sean Penn, Shia LeBoeuf , et al , et al, et al go to the "faggot" place.

And few paparazzi-wrestlers are as outspokenly left/liberal as Alec.

and he has apologized for. He is a strong and verifiable advocate He was angry when a papparazi put a camera in his wife and baby's face. He spewwed things he later regretted...and apologized for...He is an old New Yorker and I remember how surprised I was when I lived there at the language...Like what Savage said...in his youth that was what you said in anger to someone you wanted to insult. It flew out his mouth in a rage over his family...he is paying the price for it. I don't think he deserves being tossed under the bus when his actions show different.

spewing those things. I hold him to a higher standard than freaking Rick Santorum. What would people say if he shouted the "n word"? That people said that in his youth when they were mad? No sale.

Would the person saying the N word be an outright advocate? Would the person saying those words be harrassed by a papparazzi and then apologized for it? The AA issues have been on the fore front for much much longer than the LGBT issues have been.....in much less than his entire adult life...as the issues of AA. Ed Shultz used an insulting term about women...he apologized and hasn't been tossed into the annals of public purgatory for it...
