I normally don't post about personal stuff on DU but you'll have to pardon me this once. Yesterday my love & I drove to Maryland and got our marriage license. Yes, after 24 years we will soon be legally married! We celebrated by exploring the many arts & crafts businesses in downtown Frederick, shopped for wedding rings and then had a lovely, quiet lunch. It was such a wonderful, wonderful day and thanks to the many friendly people of Maryland who made this possible. I have to say I have a tear in my eye just thinking that after nearly a quarter century together we'll get to say "I do". I am so damn lucky to have such an incredible woman in my life that I just wanted to share.

(19,964 posts)... I can't imagine how it could get any better. When she held that marriage certificate with tears in her eyes, it just brought home how hard, in so many little ways, it has been to be denied marriage for so long.

(7,784 posts)15 years together and 2 kids, so I know what you mean. And in their case, they were able to come home to NY and get married, which made it even more poignant for them
All the best!

(19,964 posts)When that Virginia decision came down, it became obvious we really couldn't depend on marriage equality coming to West Virginia any time soon. Even after we marry in Maryland our marriage won't be recognized here but it's still important to us.

(4,309 posts)I am soooo proud to be one of those "many friendly people of Maryland who made this possible" by working for marriage equality here in Maryland! BTW, I think you saw me at the Hobby Lobby protest here in MD. Very cool.
Anyway, congratulations on your marriage! I'm glad you came here to celebrate it. Frederick is a nice town. (I work there.)
Peace and LOVE always!!!!

(19,964 posts)Let them know their support DOES make a difference. Everyone in Frederick was very friendly, including the court clerk and the jeweler who helped us shop for our rings. Of course, I must thank YOU because it's folks like you who made that day possible for us.
Yes, I remember you from the Hobby Lobby protest! We've all got to stick together and fight injustice wherever it rears its head.
