After nearly two decades in country music, Ty Herndon is ready to be honest with his fans: He's gay.
The country star opens up about his past, present and future in an interview with Entertainment Tonight's Nischelle Turner that rivals ABC's country soap Nashville with its real-life drama. Herndon discussed everything from his former drug use, his failed marriages and his current relationship.
"I have an awesome relationship that I've been in for a good number of years," Herndon tells ET in a new sit-down airing Thursday. " love him very much and he loves me."
Married twice before, Herndon reveals that both of his ex-wives were "absolutely" aware of his sexuality.

I would think it might even be harder to come out as a country music star compared to a football player...

(725 posts)I commend him for doing this. I hope he suffers no ill-will or loss of revenue from this, but country music has so often been the haven for heterosexuals who never want their apple cart upset.
Just saying. I will do a search for some of his music now. Thanks for sharing this.
Edited, to add, isn't there another Country music star who is gay and out? he did a couple of videos now on Youtube that were about being gay and good friends? I can't remember his name.

(725 posts)Being gay around Boston and New England isn't hard, harder to be a Country Western music fan, I think.

rumors that I resented greatly because they seemed to be based on her not being as "hot"-looking as her bandmate Jennifer Nettles:
In 2006, Hall alleged that she left Sugarland to "stay home and write songs," but that was hard to swallow. They were just about to start peddling their second album as the opening act on the Kenny Chesney tour; a song Jennifer did with Bon Jovi was shooting up the pop, rock, AND country charts; and both bands joined up for a TV special: Sugarland were about to "arrive." Was Hall "advised" that her "image" -- perceived or real -- would "hold the band back?" Was she threatened with being outed? Was she promised to be spared the "you'll never work in this town again" routine if she left quietly? And why did she have to sue for her share of Sugarland's profits? (The suit was settled in 2010.)
Irony alert: Jennifer Nettles, who married in 2011 and has a child, says she's finding HERSELF to be the subject of gay rumors!

(6,578 posts)This is awesome.
I lived in Nashville for a number of years - it is very tough.
I knew guys that lost jobs in the industry because they were outed.
