Rubio cites Elvis impersonators to explain gay marriage opposition
Marco Rubios opposition to same-sex marriage is well-known, but hes found a new way to justify his views: Elvis impersonator weddings. ... The Republican presidential candidate invoked couples right to have their wedding officiated by an Elvis Presley impersonator in Las Vegas when discussing same-sex marriage with NBCs Chuck Todd during an interview that aired Sunday on Meet the Press.
The U.S. senator from Florida said he disagrees with the U.S. Supreme Courts ruling for same-sex marriage nationwide on constitutional grounds, calling the decision bad law.
If you want to change the definition of marriage, then you need to go to state legislatures and get them to change it, Rubio said. Because states have always defined marriage. And thats why some people get married in Las Vegas by an Elvis impersonator. And in Florida, you have to wait a couple days when you get your permit. Every state has different marriage laws.
Its hard to understand why Rubio would invoke weddings officiated by Elvis impersonators when explaining his opposition to the marriage ruling. Unlike same-sex marriage, no state has barred weddings officiated by impersonators of the legendary celebrity singer.

(182,788 posts)But noooo her folks would expect to have a church wedding. At the reception I told this story and my new Father in law said if we'd eloped he'd have given us a check for the amount he kicked in for the wedding.
Rubio is an idiot. The states license people who can officiate weddings.

(68 posts)Eh, what do you expect him to say in that Primary. He is playing to the loonie base they have and he wouldn't get past first base if he didn't pass the purity test. That whole one drop of acceptance of diversity taints him through and through....
Perhaps it's hopeful that he can't frame a well thought out objection which kind of shows an unfamiliarity with the talking points. Elvis, really??
