A question from a Facebook friend....

I don't watch award shows, and really don't know the answer.

----

Question for those my age and older: Back in the 1970s, probably, since I was a kid, I was watching an awards show on the TV. I'm thinking maybe the Tonys? Anyway someone was presented with an award and in his speech he thanked his lover. I remember hearing the audience gasp when he did it, although, at the time, I had no idea why. Anyone remember this? Who it was and the exact year?

---

Anyone have a clue?

It is not the first time that winners have mentioned gay partners. In 1983 a producer of "Torch Song Trilogy" thanked his lover when accepting the best play Tony.

But she says this happened in the 70s and it was met with gasps from the audience.

She COULD be forgetting. That was a long time ago.
