This is a long story. Bear with me.

Loudoun supervisors vote on alternative to Umstattd’s LGBT resolution

Tuesday, Jul. 5, 2016 by Sydney Kashiwagi

Loudoun's Board of Supervisors on Tuesday night approved a motion from Supervisor Ron Meyer (R-Broad Run) recognizing the month of July as "Love Loudoun Month" as a way to honor the victims of the June 12 terrorist attack at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla. ... Meyer's motion was offered as a substitute proclamation to Supervisor Kristen Umstattd's (D-Leesburg) proposed resolution that would have recognized the month of June as LGBT Awareness Month.

Supervisors voted 5-4, with Umstattd, Chairwoman Phyllis Randall (D-At-Large), Geary Higgins (R-Catoctin) and Suzanne Volpe (R-Algonkian) opposed. ... Randall said, with the passage of Meyer's motion, the board would not revisit Umstattd's controversial LGBT resolution. ... Higgins said he would not support either of the proclamations and called them an “abuse” of the board's resolution process. ... "I have friends, co-workers, family members that are in [the LGBT] community,” Higgins said. “I don't support discrimination against them or anyone else. I don't support the horror that happened in Florida, the terrorism and the sickness that happened there."
....

Loudoun County state Sen. Dick Black (R) spoke in opposition to Umstattd's proclamation and argued he did not think it reflected the "public sentiment of the county." ... "I understand it addresses struggles of homosexuals and they undoubtedly have their issues to face, but many families face greater struggles and certainly the gay struggles are not economic ones," Black said.
....

Umstattd's proclamation, made public last month, drew sharp criticism from local Republicans. Will Estrada, chairman of the Loudoun County Republican Committee and former candidate for Leesburg supervisor, urged the board to vote against the resolution. ... In a letter to the editor sent to the Times-Mirror and other local media outlets, Virginia state Del. Dave LaRock (R-33rd) last week called Umstattd's proposal offensive and argued the resolution would promote "homosexuality and gender confusion to people of all ages," and could also be used to promote, affirm and recruit young school-aged children to those lifestyles.”

Del. Dave LaRock’s LGBT letter draws sharp rebukes, praise

Virginia state Del. Dave LaRock (R-33rd) says a proposed resolution recognizing LGBT Pride Month in Loudoun County “promotes homosexuality and gender confusion to people of all ages” and could be “used to promote, affirm and recruit young school-aged children to those lifestyles.”

In a letter to the editor sent this week to the Times-Mirror and other local media outlets, LaRock, responding to the LGBT resolution proposed by Loudoun County Supervisor Kristen Umstattd (D-Leesburg), opined that proclamations should be reserved “for real heroes and honorable events that elevate that which is good, wholesome and worthy of recognition.”

“Pride is an interesting concept,” LaRock writes. “Pride often reflects an attitude of arrogance, and while there may be instances where pride is a good thing (such as patriotism or support for those who have sacrificed in service to our country and community), having our Loudoun County government publicly proclaim to be proud of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) movement is not such an instance.”

The second-term delegate from western Loudoun County goes on to say Umstattd's proposal is “offensive to many (me included) for government to proclaim something which ignores and contradicts deeply held religious beliefs as this proclamation would do.”

Where we read, in a recent post:

As my Letter to the Editor stated, I am opposed to official government endorsements of LGBT lifestyles and behaviors, which ignore the physical and psychological harm to those who practice them, especially children. The United States Center for Disease Control, two years ago, decried "The human and economic toll of the needless premature deaths and suffering of hundreds of thousands of people in homosexual lifestyles..."

That doesn't sound like the CDC. Google finds it here:

This is a petition to the Supreme Court in the wake of Obergefell v. Hodges.

The remark is on page 18. The CDC had nothing to do with this.

I am grateful that the Loudoun Board of Supervisors recognized our County's diversity, while refusing to go along with the Democrat supervisors' attempt to play identity politics by creating (for the first time) an official LGBT Pride month in Loudoun County.
Thank you also to the hundreds of Loudoun residents who emailed the board, and many, including a homosexual man, who contacted me in support of my position on this issue.
Some individuals have attacked me, my pastor, my church and others for taking our stand, in an attempt to silence our view on this issue. Last night the Loudoun Supervisors acknowledged our County's diversity of opinions by allowing for public input on both sides of the proposed resolution; diversity of thought is a good thing, so it would be inappropriate for BOS to endorse one particular point of view. I am grateful to live in a Country, Commonwealth, and County where we do still have the freedoms of speech and religion, and will continue to do all I can to protect our liberties.
As my Letter to the Editor stated, I am opposed to official government endorsements of LGBT lifestyles and behaviors, which ignore the physical and psychological harm to those who practice them, especially children. The United States Center for Disease Control, two years ago, decried "The human and economic toll of the needless premature deaths and suffering of hundreds of thousands of people in homosexual lifestyles..." AND THAT IS A TOTAL LIE, YOU FUCKER!
I urge you to thank the Board of Supervisors for their rejection of the divisive, dangerous, and discriminatory "LGBT Pride Month" resolution. Loudoun is a beautiful, diverse place, filled with wonderful and diverse people, and all of us as individuals must do all that we can to love, appreciate, and care for all in our community. We are a family-friendly community, a great place to live, work and play; let's keep it that way.
