Is there a good resource for explaining the trans bathroom usage issue to people?

Last edited Fri Dec 2, 2016, 08:17 PM - Edit history (1)

I'm having a facebook discussion with someone who is super upset about how Obama forced this on us, and how upsetting it would be for a trans person to use a bathroom when his kid is there. I've tried to talk him through the topic but he just doesn't seem to get it. Is there a good explainer article or video out there that people here know of?
Thanks!

Not Democrats. Quit trivializing civil rights.

List of bathroom legislation. All brought up by Republicans AGAINST transgender citizens.

Do they REALLY want a transman to be forced to use the women's room because of a designation on a birth certificate?

Do they really want transwomen to be forced into the men's room? Sure they do - because many of them are perverts.

If someone identifies as a woman, they are a woman. You and no government has a right to tell them they are not.

Transgender rights IS national politics. I wouldn't leave ANY civil rights issue to the states, because the states have a long, sordid history of fucking with civil rights.

I don't believe that anyone in your family (including yourself) has ever voted Democratic.

They try to make you use the bathroom of the gender you were assigned at birth, but if you look very clearly like a different gender, you can't do that. A man with a beard can't walk into a women's restroom easily. Telling people he had been assigned the gender of female at birth wouldn't improve things. I would worry about a transgender woman's safety in a men's room. Again, telling people she was assigned the gender of male at birth wouldn't improve things. And non-binary people who look androgynous (like my child) get harassed in any bathroom. It just means people can't use any public restroom, and that's ridiculous. People need to mind their own business and let other people pee in peace.

several user bathrooms are partitioned, I don't see what the problem is, except Mens Restrooms are usually smellier and dirtier, but have less traffic.
