I do not want to start a fight

About anyone here. But, even though I have been a mostly silent member for over 10 years, I feel like something needs to be said. And I'm probably going to be kicked out of here for saying it. But my wife and I are also scared of white people at large in certain areas of this country. Keep in mind, we are white people ourselves. But we are also married lesbians. We decided last week to go to the Brimfield huge flea market this weekend. This is in Massachusetts. Even though we are two hours away, we thought it would be fun to stay in a motel 20 minutes away so we could shop early. This motel was kinda out in the middle of nowhere. Driving up to it, my wife and I looked at each other like, what are we getting ourselves into... Turns out that the the folks running the place were of southeastern Asian descent. We were relieved thinking it would be ran by local Caucasians. Because honestly, we have ran into more hateful white people, well than anyone else. Because we have never ran into any POC that were hateful. Ever. But white people, yes. And I'm not knocking Brimfield because it was a glorious mix of people of all walks of life. As we drove home though, we saw a sign that said "glad we have a real president with balls, and a first lady that doesnt" I can't believe we have to be scared up here. We used to live in Missouri. I can't believe we even had to expect it there. But we did. And now here... I think we are right to be worried...

1. I think you are being very paranoid.

The people of Massachusetts are very tolerant in general and the Brimfield fair is huge for the local businesses- and consequently they are going to bend over backwards to make everyone feel welcome.

3. To be fair

I said Brimfield was awesome. And we had a great time! It was the surrounding areas that made us skeptical. We have been to Brimfield several times and loved it. It was the surrounding areas that made us take pause.

2. Once you get west of the Beltway in Mass, there is a mix of people.

And a lot more Republicans than you would expect for a liberal state.

I'm not sure why you would get kicked out of anywhere on DU for this. Am I missing some hidden meaning here?

5. No hidden agenda

Just paranoid I guess. I got flagged for a comment months ago about something else totally unrelated

8. I can understand that.

DUers are not always tolerant of nuance.

6. Your worries are valid and quite understandable...why would you get "booted" for expressing yourself

regarding how you were legitimately feeling?

10. Blur, you are most certainly not alone in that fear of Whisis

I recently struck one more business off my local retail shopping list till the MAGA loudmouth they hired gets discharged. This, in a relatively liberal area of California as well. I saw several with the "hmm, last time I shop here" look on two other raised eyebrow customers who overheard the bigoted crap this employee was spewing, I also left without a purchase, nor do I have particular interest in that little store, may be suspect of the ownership. Irony was I bought most of the stuff I was going to get there at the little mexican sundries store next to Sears across town, cheaper, if not as handy.
They've been brainwashed all this white supremacy crap for 10 years from multiple media outlets. Now, empowered, emboldened, completely forgotten the words of one of their gods:
"Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall".
I'm seriously reconsidering my original upcoming retirement plans for here in the US. I'll be around long enough for the next presidential election, but some south american countries are looking better and better refuge all the time.

11. Oh I hear you

My wife is a minister and we are looking at other countries for her sadly. Luckily for her she has a tiny in with the main guy here. He says stay buy if you so choose to leave, we will help. We are torn.

14. I can also concur that I am wary of white people

even though I am white but in interracial relationship. Itís weird to say but I am much more comfortable dealing with non-white people in every walk of life, from customer service to doctors and nurses, doing small talk, uber, and so on. Before trump, I never even thought about it. But we now know that majority of white voters in the US are true racists and, thankfully, it is not the majority of this country nor it is the majority of white US population (only those who voted). Also, I realized my suspicion mostly applies to 35+ white people while younger white Americans are culturally completely different so I donít feel much difference between 20-something asians, whites, blacks, hispanics, etc. they are much more global and open minded people in general and Iíd say more united in their thinking.

18. I sadly agree

As a white person. We will always at this point be more fearful of them than anyone else. And I really hate breaking it down by race, religion, etc... my wife is a minister and she is fearful of all of this too.

19. I'm a straight white woman and even I'm afraid of other white people.

I have lefty and equality bumper stickers and sometimes, depending where I go, I try to park my car inconspicuously in case someone takes offense. Of course, I don't mean to measure my uncomfortable-ness to your and your spouse's by ANY means, I'm just saying that regardless where you live, you have to be alert and watch out for others. Plus, this is a safe place to vent, so I wouldn't worry about getting kicked out. This is DU.
