(56,018 posts)1. Years ago, for my special MEd project, I worked on something similar.
There was a HUGE gay subculture in SC prior to, during, and after WWII. The gay newspaper of record for the era in that area was called "The Myrtle Beach Bitch" and was an underground publication. LOTS of gay military too.

I lived in San Diego for about 20 years during the 80s and 90s.
(Rumor told me) there were a lot of gay porn videos available for rent in the various outlets,
and marines from nearby Camp Pendleton moonlighted performing in front of the cameras for some major studios.
(Colt, Bijou, Catalina, Falcon, etc)
