http://blogs.villagevoice.com/forkintheroad/2012/02/chik-fil-a_prot.phpBisexual NYU freshmen and Santa Monica, CA native Hillary Dworkoski has launched a protest of Chick-fil-A's presence on the Greenwich Village campus via a petition on Change.org. Quoted in a press release, Dworkoski said, "I was disturbed to find out that not only was NYU supporting an extremely anti-gay company, but it was also home to New York City's only Chick-fil-A restaurant. I knew I had to do something."
According to an investigation by Equity Matters, the company donated nearly $2 million to anti-gay groups via its charitable arm, the WinShape Foundation. This money has gone to support groups opposed to gay marriage such as Focus on the Family, Exodus International, and the Family Research Council.
Chick-fil-A was founded as the Dwarf Grill in Hapeville, Georgia in 1946, and currently boast over 1,500 locations, most located in the South. Annual sales totaled $3.5 billion in 2010. The NYU branch is a rather sad thing, located in a dorm food court and offering reheated chicken sandwiches to homesick students from the South. As we reported in 2010, the food isn't very good. The waffle fries and fried-chicken sandwiches are apparently popular among students.

(81,866 posts)I think that's kind of odd. Why would they open on campus, but not anywhere near the city? Anyway, they are a pretty bad company on many levels.

(55,147 posts)Our community has been boycotting them where I live for a while now. Which is hard, you know how much we love our chicken!

(4,578 posts)I don't get it. One by the Sams club here is packed every time I go by, so much so it wraps into the street. The one where I live wraps into the parking lot of adjacent strip mall. I can't believe it's the food; because it is lousy like you say not to mention the politics of this company.

(4,578 posts)Had it once or twice, and it was a meh moment. Dry fried chicken on a dry bun never appeals to me even if they throw pickles at it. haha

Edited to add that Farm Fresh is a grocery store chain, and Pollards is a local chicken place with multiple locations in Tidewater.
