Brit Leader Who Previously Said Gay Was a Choice Praises Stonewall
The embattled leader of the Labour Party in the United Kingdom made special note Friday of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising.
Fifty years ago on the streets of New York City, LGBT+ people fought the forces of a bigoted and violent state - and won, tweeted Jeremy Corbyn, the party leader.
They achieved so much and inspired millions, but their struggle continues. @UKLabour will always stand with the LGBT+ community.
The comment came weeks after the British politician suffered critique for saying LGBTQ individuals chose to be gay during an event honoring the start of Pride Month. His team has stressed since he doesn't believe being LGBTQ is a choice and that he misspoke.
Corbyn also has come under fire for past associations with Holocaust deniers.
