Huge majority of LGBT people in US think homophobia will hurt Buttigieg presidential bid

Openly gay mayor Pete Buttigieg will be challenged by anti-gay sentiment among Democrats in his bid to be US President, according to most LGBT+ people in the US.

Buttigieg, who is currently the mayor of South Bend in Indiana, is seeking the Democratic nomination and has been open about being a gay man – including bringing his husband, Chasten, to campaign events, and them both appearing on the cover of TIME magazine.

But an overwhelming majority of 87 percent of LGBT+ people in the US think that anti-gay sentiment will hurt his presidential bid, even among Democrats, according to a new survey from Whitman Insight Strategies and BuzzFeed News.

When asked the question, “Do you think that homophobia will be a challenge for Pete Buttigieg’s presidential campaign during the Democratic primary?”, 87 percent agreed while only 13 percent disagreed.

while conditions are considerably better than before stonewall, equality is real only in the big city enclaves.

there is still a long way to go, and trump is not helping anything.

Glad he's being taken serious in the primaries. He's very thoughtful and intelligent and capable of speaking his mind clearly. His biggest challenges are with people who have ingrained prejudices about sexual identity because unfortunately our country is rife with dolts like that and they're typically under the misguided impression that everyone else agrees with them. And then there are those of the religious mindset that have had years of indoctrination convincing them that they can judge the love between other human beings as wrong in the eyes of God. Buttigieg's integrity breaks down a lot of stereotypes but there are some seriously thick skulls out there.

too many people in this country who are not ready for a gay couple in the White House. I think he’s a great candidate - who’s utterly unelectable. I wish he would drop out, cause he’s sucking up oxygen from the others. There’s no way he beats Trump, which is THE prime directive for 2020. Period.

Midwesterns/Rust belt loves him. He would talk circles around Pence in a debate.
