Stonewall generation has a warning for the LGBTQ community post-Roe: 'Be really afraid right now'

Don Bell worries that “all the work that we have done for the 72 years I have been around is at risk.”

Lujira Cooper, 75, nails it in four words: “Fight like hell – vote.”

Green, Bell and Cooper are among LGBTQ elders whose alarm bells are blaring that the hard-fought gains notched by their Stonewall generation could be on the precipice of being gutted.

This year has been a troubling one for the LGBTQ community: 316 anti-LGBTQ bills have been introduced so far in 2022, according to the Equality Federation, from “don’t say gay” bills to health care access limits to youth sports bans.

---

There are nearly 3 million LGBTQ adults over age 50 in the U.S., according to a report by think tank the Movement Advancement Project and SAGE, an advocacy group for LGBTQ seniors. Of those, 1.1 million are 65 and older, the report says, and 1 in 5 are people of color. One-third of LGBTQ seniors live at or below 200% of the federal poverty level, according to the report.

Will it be enough, though? The Nazis are getting uglier, that's for sure. And they've made it clear they don't care about the will of the people. 99% of the country would make it clear they stand for LGBTQ rights... and the thugs would stand with the 1%.

As I said, we are sure in some very ugly times right now.

That said, we sure as hell couldn't make it without allies and friends like you, so thank you.

is repukes, they simply do not play by the rules.....lying, cheating and stealing are all SOP for the GOP......Democrats have to learn to fight back HARD but we consistently seem to try to take the high road....I know, I know, we don't want to sink to their level but we are essentially fighting FASCISM now, the rules have to be BENT....I was absolutely DISGUSTED how repukes were seemingly so easily able to stack the SC with lying rightwing hacks - Dems should have been raising holy hell about it but except for some grumbling they acted like it was business as usual. Here is another example - WHY is Al Franken gone but Matt Gaetz still remains? WTF!!!!!!!

We need to also hit back at the double standards the media has towards the parties...I've said this for some time now, but the GOP are treated like white men while Democrats are treated like women and POC (Dems have to be twice as good to be considered half as good) - I am SICK of it.

CALL OUT THESE FUCKING HYPOCRITES who feel the need to protect a 10 year old girl from books and drag queens but are A-OK with forcing her to give birth to a rapist's baby. ENOUGH ALREADY.

WE HAVE REACHED THE TIPPING POINT!!!

And I am afraid. Quite afraid. Afraid of what the hell the neo-Nazi groups would do to us if they got their hands on us... Afraid of what QOP politicians will do to us if they have the power to do so.

We are living in very frightening and ugly times.

We've fought so hard, lost so many in the early AIDS epidemic when RayGun wouldn't lift a finger, so much PTSD from violent homophobia, so many runaways from the christofascists, raised awareness globally where we could. We've come so far.
All for TFG's SC stooges to play up an inquisition revival. All for RW media to play the "groomer" frame game. I knew we were in trouble when I heard the shocking news on November 9th, 2016.
Hoped it all wouldn't be that bad.
It was worse, far worse, and keeps on it's astonishingly idiotic campaigns.
