Related: About this forumI never knew of Baron Von Steuben. This soldier was a hero and openly gay.
Thinking on it this way as an old 11 series after reading this article . In that this professional soldier saved our country. He turned our army into a bad ass professional killing machine. https://www.history.com/articles/openly-gay-revolutionary-war-hero-friedrich-von-steuben

(1,114 posts)I didn't know he was gay. It goes to show you it doesn't matter if you're straight or gay if you're good at doing your job. In the late 70s, there was a big debate about allowing gays to serve in the military. I didn't care if they were straight or gay. What I cared about is could they do their job. Back then, I knew two gay guys in the AF and both were good at their job. One guy, who we suspectd was gay, we didn't lie because he said he was straight and engage to a woman. He married her and a year later he told her he liked the boys better than the girls and they divorced. She was one of the nicest people we ever met and knew he was gay when he married her. It was the way he treated her that caused us not to like him.
