Wedding Colors etc

Last edited Thu Mar 8, 2012, 03:11 PM - Edit history (1)

So finally Lisa and I are close to signing our event space contract

However, I have a dilemma that I want you guys to help solve. I am wearing Burgundy/Gold and Lisa is probably wearing a black tuxedo

What should our wedding colors be? (keep in mind that i want the wedding too look bright: more bollywood than church wedding).

Thanks LGBT fam for your input

2. Is the gold really gold cloth or is it a yellow called gold?

If it is a yellow called gold, then other yellows will have to be chosen carefully. Gold cloth will be more like a metal, so all you will need to do is to contrast or blend with the burgundy. I think Burgundy and gold cloth make a good "neutral" allowing you to really go wild with the other colors!

Check out the colors in some Bollywood weddings to get a better handle on what you want. I know we want pictures!

in your case -- burgundy, gold and black.

so -- just for example -- burgundy table cloth, gold runner w/ black accents.

You can look at - even order swatches - might not be exact - but you can get the screen color - the wedding party colors - and things should start to pop out for you.

The swatches shouldn't take long to get - can you get fabric swatches from your dress?

if it's a screen, you could cover it with a pattern or even something featuring a fake fur - leopard maybe to pick up the gold and black? On the other hand, you don't want to blend into it!

I say that because Im sitting watching tv and the studio furniture is burgandy, the guys are wearing dark suits as is the lady, and the studio lighting is tha colour I mentioned. If you google violet and hit images you'll see what I mean.

6. If you go to a site that sells paint (Glidden, Sherwin -Williams etc)

you'll be able to get suggestions of coordinating/contrasting colors and lay the colors side by side to see how they look together.

8. Gay rainbow colors!

Put the bridesmaids and best men in a different color suit/dress, each a color of the Pride rainbow.

(Yeah, I got nothing. Color schemes and I don't really get along well together. I'm a bad gay man as I can't mix/match them at all.)

Anyway, if she's in black, burgundy/gold is good, more burgundy than gold I would suggest because you want to be in dark colors also.

My two cents.

14. This is a good illustration of why the paint chips are so useful -

I would call those red dresses! When I think burgundy i think closer to purple:

My son and his bride told everyone their colors vi paint chips so we know what color dresses to get. I call it turquoise, but the company calls the bride's maid dresses "Pool".

15. There's a lot that can and is called burgundy.

Like you I tend to think of a rich wine color.

But other people, designers, fabric designers, etc - that call all kinds of rich, red/purple colors burgundy.

La Lioness is lucky - because she can wear almost any color.

The saris were gorgeous and flowing, lots of beautiful color everywhere. Maybe you can grab some ideas. The wedding was outdoors at a park in the Blue Ridge mountains. Not quite bollywood, but a lot of traditions where incorporated. It was by far the longest ceremony I've ever performed but one of the very most enjoyable.
