Ellen Wins: One Million Moms Group Concedes JCPenney Fight

The group pushing to get Ellen DeGeneres fired from her job as a spokeswoman for JCPenney is giving up, according to an interview with a conservative website.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation sent a celebratory news release today with the headline, "You did it! 'One Million Moms' abandons call for Ellen to be fired."

Monica Cole, director of the One Million Moms organization, which came up with the idea of boycotting JCPenney, tells OneNewsNow that it's time to move on. Still, Cole claims to "have heard back from so many of our members" who say "they will no longer shop there ... as long as Ellen DeGeneres is their spokesperson."

DeGeneres was so offended by a group calling for her firing just for being gay that she actually called out the "haters" on her show. "This time I'd like to talk about it because my haters are my motivators," she said.

I mean...it's not like her life was going down the gurgler without the JCP money, is it? But still - this has got to feel great to her. Having a bunch of Dr. Laura wannabes give up their attack? Fantastic.

I've always like Ellen, but I've liked her more than ever, over the last few years, because of her graceful yet unapologetic life.

Likewise, George Takei, despite the more strident nature of his public persona. He infuses it with humour, but he really lives his life out loud.

Was recommended to me over thirty years ago by a friend who had married into a very wealthy family and had a great wardrobe. I had known Penney's as a catalog store only, growing up, and it was more recently having "department stores" in expanded areas. She confided that Penney's had really cute stuff at great prices ( she came from a blue collar background herself, but had great taste.) Thereafter I always checked Penney's out first. I love Ellen and couldn't care less that her sexual orientation is different than mine.
