Starbucks CEO Smacks Down NOM!!!
"Any decision of this type or magnitude has be made with great thoughtfulness and I would assure you that a senior team of Starbucks discussed this. To be very candid with you, this was not something that was a difficult decision for us and we did share this with the board as well. [snip] We made that decision, in our view, through the lens of humanity and being the kind of company that embraces diversity." - Starbucks CEO Howard Shultz, responding to NOM's complaint about his company's support for marriage equality. The assembled stockholders responded with strong applause.

(33,053 posts)Good for Starbucks. I am in my local Starbucks on an almost daily basis.
I had noticed the staff was representative of the world - old/young, black/brown/Asian, male/female, gay/straight (whatever), an employee who is handicapped and usually one or two of the women are rather pregnant.
One day I asked for the manager. He came from the back and I could tell he thought I was going to complain about something. Instead I complimented him and told him the very diverse staff had not gone unnoticed. He was so pleased (and proud) and said that no customer had ever commented on it before.
If I go in early in the day when he is working the front he insists on comping my beverage.
