Today's doodle honours Dr. Laura Bassi, Italian physicist, the first woman to be awarded a degree

in science, the second to be awarded a Doctorate of philosophy (Ph. D). The doodle today references the date on which she successfully defended her 39 theses to earn her degree.

I hope you will take a few minutes to read the biography of this remarkable, incredibly talented woman. Hers is quite a story of overcoming sexism and misogyny.

What a life. It lead me to also read about the first woman to teach at a university about 500 years before Dr Bassi.
