Women's Rights & Issues
Related: About this forumMy wife just received an letter from our 15 year old niece.
She writes all over the envelop - one thing that caught my eye, "US currency doesn't have women on it because they would have to devalue the dollar to $.77" There is hope if there are more teenagers like her.

(7,300 posts)Good for her. The time when her generation takes over can't come fast enough.
I have mulled that idea over for many years. When I, and much of my generation, was in college dealing with the Viet Nam conflict, with the problem of civil rights, etc., we sat around many a night in the local Hitching Post discussing how we were going to make the world a better place. Little things happened like the draft, kids, jobs, constant propaganda from the media, that any protest group you joined was most likely infiltrated by agents from one level of government or another. The first job I took required a loyalty oath. I was alone with a wife and two children. We both worked and yet still qualified for food stamps. No one in the community would have seriously taken our side. The ultimate and ignominious end is that we failed society, the future, ourselves. My apologies to the present. I do hope you find it possible to do better for your fellows, but it "aint" easy.

(239 posts)... if women are paid only $.77 on the dollar when compared to men then women should be charged only 77% for every dollar of the price when purchasing anything. Therefore a $10.00 item for a man would cost $7.70 for a woman.
Of course men would all try to send their grandmothers, mothers, wives, girlfriends, daughters and even female colleagues shopping for them... Rich men would hire female "shoppers" to take advantage of this deal. A whole new job classification would arise...
Or, a crazy idea but it just may work, we could have pay equality.

(19,926 posts)No more cash purchases or else they are full price.
Purchases are made by male/female accounts to tie the purchase price to the earning rate so it wouldn't matter who did the purchasing.

(8,910 posts)on equal pay for equal work, by lowering salaries for men down to $0.77
That way corporations pocket $0.27 per dollar per male, and they can now
claim thay women and men salaries match.
The sad part is that the corporations will also figure out that they can pay
women only $0.59 per men's $0.77.

(2,518 posts)I keep one of each in my pocket most of the time. When I spend one, I try to replace it as soon as possible. I keep them to give to panhandlers, street musicians and the like. As far as I can tell, they are worth the full $1.00 each.

(12,157 posts)Why can't they put some of these women on paper currency as opposed to a coin that no one will use. I used to get rolls of these dollar coins which I spent. Cashiers would give me a strange look wondering why I was trying to pay with, "What's this, a Canadian quarter?"
