Related: About this forumDoes anyone know why conservative politicians always say "In cases of rape AND incest"?
The incest part has always puzzled me. Like, if it's incest where a relative/family member is exerting their power within the family to take advantage of someone, that's still rape.
If otherwise, it's just consensual sex with a relative; in which case, if resulting in pregnancy it would be a consequence of both parties.
I see people touting this all the time, people who don't believe in abortion when the embryos are revealed in checkups to have serious and debilitating defects. So it doesn't seem like they care about the potential of serious genetic defects (which only really present themselves in 2nd generational incest anyways). Why do these science-deniers believe that abortions are justifiable in cases of incest? Does it just make a good soundbite? Should I make a joke about them being inbred hicks? About Donald and Ivanka?

(14,014 posts)SOME Republicans SAY they would make an exception in cases of incest because those cases are generally a person with power exerting it in some way over someone with no power in the situation. Usually because the person being preyed on is underage. Of course the real reason they say that is because demanding some 14 year old girl raped by her depraved Dad give birth to the baby is way too much for even a lot of pro-lifers to stomach. I don't think most Republican lawmakers give a damn about anyone, personally, but if it might even be too much for their theocratic base to stomach 100%, they will go along with that small smidgen of compassion.
Same for cases of rape.
