Hundreds of Pro-Choice Supporters Rally at Ohio Statehouse

COLUMBUS — With shouts of “We won’t go back,” hundreds rallied at the statehouse on Wednesday to seek to continue fighting laws passed by anti-abortion legislators, which opponents say infringe on gains in women’s rights.

“ Our rights are being eroded every single day,” said Jenny O’Donnell, of Linwood, who drove up from Cincinnati for the rally. “The attack on health care, the attack on abortion services, the attack on preventative women’s health care – it’s all an attack on women, and it’s got to stop.”

Statehouse administration said 350 people from several parts of the state attended the rally, timed for the General Assembly’s first day back in session after a three-month summer break. Rally organizers estimated at least 750 people gathered at the statehouse.

In either case, the rally dwarfed a similar gathering held on the General Assembly’s last session date in June, when lawmakers passed a two-year spending plan that contained several anti-abortion measures. In a couple of cases, the provisions were added to the budget at the last minute, after hearings had ended, by GOP leaders who control the House and Senate....
