UCSB Gunman Acted In “Retribution” For Women Rejecting His Advances

http://www.thefrisky.com/2014-05-24/7-people-killed-near-uc-santa-barbara-including-gunman-who-acted-in-retribution-for-women-rejecting-his-advances/

Last night, six people were killed by a lone gunman, believed to be Elliot Rodger, 22, in the town of Isla Vista, California, near UC Santa Barbara. Seven more were injured and the shooter was shot and killed by police. While investigators have not officially confirmed that Rodger was the shooter, or released the names of the victims, there is ample video and written evidence to suggest that Rodger carried out a pre-meditated mass murder, as detailed in a YouTube video titled “Elliot Rodger’s Retribution.” The video features Rodger sitting in his car, detailing his life of “loneliness, rejection, and unfulfilled desires,” specifically blaming women for not welcoming his advances, angry that he was still a virgin. The reasoning behind his intended mass murder is textbook sexist MRA (men’s rights activists) bullshit at its most entitled and violent.

<snip>

According to his Facebook page, Rodger is the son of “Hunger Games” assistant director Peter Rodger, grew up in wealthy Calabasas, California, and lived a more privileged life than many college students, driving luxury cars and flying first class. He was a member of an anti-pick up artist forum called PUA Hate, a breeding ground for angry dudes who have tried and failed to use pickup artist techniques to get women and have felt ripped off as a result. This disturbing thread shows other commenters discussing Rodger’s shooting spree.

Other videos on Rodger’s YouTube page show him ranting about women, decrying the “brutes” they’re interested in instead of him, “the perfect gentleman.”

Getting them to see that it is bigotry has been impossible, unless one of the haters actually breaks down and posts a threat against a female poster.

... a reporter from The Daily Nexus, which I recognized as the name of the USCB campus newspaper. WaPo says he was going to target sororities (i.e. he was specifically going to target girls) because of his personal sense of sexual frustration. One girl greeted him as she walked by and as she walked away she felt a bullet pass her head.

I just want to weep and throw things.

Basically there's no one in charge except for the Sheriff and IV Foot Patrol; it's not part of the actual campus and never was, so it's jammed with a high density of 18 to 22 year olds away from mommy and daddy. A couple of decades ago some ass in a national magazine rated Isla Vista as a super-party town for Halloween and ever since then ... well, let's just say the Sheriff and Police call in their mutual-aid cohorts from the counties next to us, use road blocks against the swell of non-resident traffic, get the UC chancellor to assist them in sending pre-Halloween flyers everywhere saying "Stay Away, Alcohol laws will be enforced"... and it's still a mess.

UC Santa Barbara itself is a fantastic place for an education; it's lousy with Nobel Laureates in Chemistry and Physics, has an exceptional Religious Studies department with an endowed chair in Tibetan Buddhist Studies -- great place. But I would not want to send my 18-year old there as a freshman to live in IV without supervision.

I'm heartsick about this too.

I just feel sick about this. I have read that he was a student at Santa Barbara City College, not UCSB. I lived in Isla Vista for 3 years but back then it was a small quiet place. How I wish that it had been incorporated into the campus way back then, but greed displaced common sense.

I have a high tolerance for creepy. I have, to borrow a phrase, "seen some shit."

This guy's video makes my skin crawl into a corner and hide.

It's basically watching an empty husk of meat pretend to be human. I couldn't make it more than a minute in.

I know angry women too, but I don't know any women who get angry because a man rejected them. Sad, depressed, but not violently angry. Men, on the other hand, fill up our newspapers and crime blotters violently attacking women who reject them.

According to a Forbes article, he was in therapy, and his parents made him pull his videos off of youtube, but he said he was going to repost them. They also reported him to the police (and showed them the videos)...so why was nothing done about this? Comments from the sites he visited showed other members calling him out on his attitude.

A user (from bodybuilder.com) who went by the handle dtugg was especially critical of Rodger. He had apparently seen Rodger’s YouTube videos. “I see you got rid of those serial killer-esc videos on Youtube,” he wrote. Rodger responded saying his parents made him take them down, but that he planned to repost them. “I’m not trying to be mean, but the creepy vibe that you give off in those videos is likely the major reason that you can’t get girls,” responded dtugg.

After watching that retribution video, all I could think of was "Wow...is he ever creepy". No wonder he couldn't get a girl.

I wonder how much of this happens because parents living a more lavish lifestyle don't "see" their kids enough to know they are having severe problems. In this case, his parents did try to get him help, but maybe too late. Some of the last few mass shootings seem to be kids from wealthier families. I'm not sure that's it though because Adam Lanza's mom seemed to be pretty focused on his social issues and wanted to help him. The Aurora shooter also came from a wealthier family.

But the forbes article brings up a good question. Was this really about "women hating" or was it caused by "class privilege". He was good looking, came from a wealthy family, drove a Beamer...he deserved to get the beautiful women, but never could. He hated the women and the men who got them. This article also said he was diagnosed as high functioning Aspergers.

Translation: he was rich, white and could not understand why he was not deferred to. He felt women should gravitate towards him, not realzing that many women have enough slef respect to not want to deal with another rich jerk.

Coincidence? No. There is one - as much as the American Taliban try to convince women that it's all in their minds and not real. This gruesome act is one result of it.
